Could help be on the way?

The Seattle Seahawks have made a lot of changes this offseason, especially offensively. But those changes have not yet been made to the team's most obvious weakness, the offensive line. Seattle did add free-agent offensive lineman Josh Jones, but he should not be expected to be any more than a backup.

In other words, Seattle needs to find upgrades to nearly every position on the unit except for left tackle. 2024 starting left guard Laken Tomlinson left in free agency, and the Seahawks have no obvious replacement. Right guard has a trio of players hoping to start, but none have distinguished themselves in any way.

The good news is that the team is reportedly getting several different visits from veteran guards this week. Perhaps the best one is Teven Jenkins, most recently of the Chicago Bears. Jenkins was expected to take his visit with Seattle on Monday, leading Emerald City Spectrum reporter Corbin Smith to tweet on Tuesday that maybe the visit with Jenkins did not go well. Thankfully, that was misleading.

Seattle Seahawks could sign at least one free-agent offensive lineman this week

As it turns out, the visit was delayed until Tuesday. That means Seattle could be in the running for the left guard, and he would be an upgrade to Tomlinson. The issue for Jenkins wasn't really his specific play last year, but that he got grouped in with a bad Bears offensive line overall. Chicago allowed 68 sacks, but Jenkins gave up only four of those.

Pro Football Focus (subscription required) graded Jenkins as the 18th-best guard in the NFL in 2024. That is the lowest he has rated over the last three seasons, so he has been good for a few years now. If he stays healthy, the expectation would be Jenkins could be a good left guard for Seattle for several years. The 6'6" and 320-pound guard is only 27 years old.

Jenkins might be Seattle's best free-agent option, but he is not the team's only one. The Seahawks are also reportedly meeting with Tennessee Titans guard Dillon Radunz and New Orleans Saints offensive lineman Lucas Patrick.

Radunz allowed six sacks in 2024 while playing right guard, and he has been inconsistently efficient at run-blocking and pass protection while lining up at different spots on the line during his four-year career.

Patrick is an eight-year veteran but does have ties to new Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak since both were with the Saints last year. He has spent a lot of time at all the spots along the interior of the line, so he can fit in where Seattle would need him to. He hasn't allowed a sack in two seasons, but he does get panelized a lot. 17 times combined in the last two years.
