Seahawks get another boost to the defense by activating Uchenna Nwosu
By Lee Vowell
Thursday has been a big day for Seattle Seahawks edge rusher Uchenna Nwosu. He learned he was the Seahawks' nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year, and he also found out he had been activated from injured reserve. Nwosu has been practicing for a couple of weeks, but now he gets to play in his first game since Week 5.
The edge rusher has only played one half of one game since Week 7 of 2023. He is bound to be rusty, no matter how much practice he is getting. He tore a pec muscle in 2023, injured his knee in this year's preseason, missed the first four games, and then hurt his groin in Week 5. At that time, Seattle's defense was beginning to struggle, but in the last four games, the unit has been much better.
That is one of the questions Seattle is going to have to ask themselves. How much do they want to mess with a rotation that has mostly been Derick Hall, Boye Mafe, and Dre'Mont Jones? Nwosu, when healthy, is very good, and he plays the pass and run equally well, but again, the rust might cost him some reps.

Still, at least Seattle continues to get healthier as the season grows old. Seattle got right tackle Abe Lucas back a few weeks ago, and he has been much better than anyone else Seattle had at the position this season. Getting Nwosu back for the stretch run should allow the defense to continue to be better.
Seattle has also had to win games with its defense as the offense has been inconsistent and mostly poor. Nwosu obviously is not going to help on offense, but if the defense is going to continue to be the reason the team wins games and tries to win the NFC West, then adding Nwosu is a good move.
He might also start slowly with reps and then pick up in the next few games. Hall and Mafe have been quite good this year, so if anything, maybe Nwosu will take more of Jones' snaps. It is a good problem to have for the Seahawks.
