The 2025 season has been a dream one for the Seattle Seahawks so far. After 14 weeks, they are one of the best teams in the league, currently sitting on a 10-3 record. Excelling on both sides of the ball, the Seahawks also have the chance to be the No. 1 seed in the NFC. Securing the top spot in the conference could be a big advantage for Seattle’s pursuit of a Super Bowl.
While the Seahawks have done a lot of great things this season, they have also displayed a tragic flaw — an issue that could ultimately keep the team from reaching its goals this season. That flaw is the inability to protect the football.
Despite Seattle’s success as an offense, the team has the second-most turnovers in the NFL (23). It’s paramount that the team clean this up before the postseason, or Seattle could have a quick exit.
Seahawks must limit turnovers as they prepare to contend for Super Bowl
The Klint Kubiak-coordinated offense is second in the NFL in points per game at 29.8, and ninth in yards per game at 353.5. The unit is decent at running the ball and elite at passing it, but the group just gives it away far too much.
Seattle has 12 interceptions and 11 fumbles on the season, but has been able to win in spite of those 23 turnovers. It also helps that the team has 21 takeaways, meaning the turnover differential is only -2.
While the Seahawks have been getting away with turning the ball over in the regular season, that likely won’t be the case down the stretch of the year and in the postseason. Unless the Seattle defense can keep pace and continue to generate as many takeaways as the offense commits turnovers, the Seahawks have to stop giving the ball away.
As the stakes get higher and as the teams get better, every mistake becomes more costly. A multi-turnover game in the playoffs will usually end a team’s season.
If Seattle doesn’t want its season ended because of self-inflicted mistakes, it needs to emphasize ball security and actually improve in the final stretch of the season. If the Seahawks can do that and enter the playoffs as a more responsible team, they have a chance to go far.
