Seahawks hopefully just made the most meaningless move of the season

Let's hope for the best.

The Seattle Seahawks have struggled with efficiency from its offensive line all season. In the past few weeks, things had slightly improved until the team got literally run over by the Green Bay Packers pass rush in Week 15. Just when Seattle thought its O-line was getting better, reality smacked them in the face.

But let's be positive. Right tackle has at least been improved since Abraham Lucas returned from an extended period on injured reserve. He has managed to stay healthy for a few games as well, so that is also a good thing. The issue is that anyone else who has played Lucas' position has been atrocious.

This includes Stone Forsythe who played six games since Lucas was a no-go at the beginning of the season, and then George Fant got injured in Week 1. Forsythe also eventually was injured. He hurt his hand and was placed on IR. Seattle's offensive line, except for left tackle and left guard, has been a football MASH unit.

Seattle Seahawks activate Stone Forsythe from injured reserve

Forsythe was so bad in his time playing, however, that he still ranks seventh in most pressures allowed (35). Every other player in the top 13 has played at least 10 games, and most 12 games or more. True, Forsythe was never expected to be counted on to get a lot of snaps, but he proved when his opportunity came along that he would fail.

The bad news for 12s on Wednesday is that Forsythe has been activated from IR and is now free to play again. Let's hope he doesn't get that chance. That is especially true if something happens to left tackle Charles Cross and Forsythe has to swing over to cover the left side. The right tackle's pressure numbers would probably only greatly increase when facing even better pass rushers.

If Lucas and Cross can stay healthy, the tackle spots are fine. Forsythe cannot play guard or center so he won't be a disappointment there. Of course, he might not do any worse than any other right guard Seattle has had on the field. Rookie Sataoa Laumea has played admirably, but he doesn't really need to be starting games at this point in his career.
