Zach Charbonnet too?

The Seattle Seahawks are reportedly having running back Joe Mixon in for a visit on Sunday, the same day as Week 4 against the Los Angeles Chargers. Mixon is a veteran player who has had some high-end success, but the interest in him might not be a good sign about Jadarian Price's injury.

Mixon missed the entire 2025 season with a foot injury. In the two seasons before that, he ran for more than 1,000 yards. He has had five seasons of at least that many yards, and he almost always averages around 4 yards per carry. He also has 60 touchdowns in his nine-year career.

But he won't be the kind of player who can replace Jadarian Price, who has been placed on injured reserve with a chest injury, or Kenneth Walker, who signed with the Kansas City Chiefs in free agency. Price and Walker are explosive, but Mixon is not.

Mixon is more of the kind of back that Zach Charbonnet is. Charbonnet is hoping to return soon from a knee injury he suffered in last season's playoffs, and could return as soon as Week 4. The interest in Mixon might imply that neither Price nor Charbonnet is going to help the team much for a while. Their absences leave the Seahawks with only Emanuel Wilson and George Holani.

Of course, how healthy Mixon is remains to be seen too. Seattle might just be checking how fit he is before deciding whether to make him an offer. The hope is that Seattle is not so desperate that they are hoping to count on any back who has had relative success in the league. That isn't normally the John Schneider way of doing business.

The visit of Joe Mixon with the Seahawks was first reported by Jay Glazer, and maybe a visit is all it is, but 12s would still have a right to feel nervous about such a move. Is Moxin healthy? Is Price out for far longer than four games? Is Charbonnet nowhere near returning?

Maybe not all of that is the case, but some of it might be, and none of it is very good. Mixon would only allow offensive coordinator Brian Fleury to grind out yards, and opposing defenses would be able to snuff that out quickly. Ideally, Seattle would look at adding a back with more speed, but there aren't many players like that remaining in free agency.
