The Seattle Seahawks are clearly a very good team, but one reason the team has had so much success is that the coaching staff is ridiculously good. In fact, the current staff is arguably the best one in the history of the franchise. That, of course, means coaches might soon leave to take promotions elsewhere.
One of those is offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak. The OC has already fielded numerous requests to interview for open head coach positions, and he would be a good candidate. He has the family lines to know football well (his father, Gary, was a longtime head coach in the NFL), and he has a measured and cerebral approach to the game.
While some teams that he seemed good for, such as the Atlanta Falcons, have reportedly filled their spots, a new opening has become available that Kubiak might be perfect for. The Buffalo Bills let head coach Sean McDermott go two days after the team lost to the Denver Broncos in the playoffs.
Seattle Seahawks' Klint Kubiak would be a great fit as the head coach for the Buffalo Bills
McDermott has been a successful coach in the regular season, but he doesn't seem to elevate his team in the postseason. Make no mistake that the Bills are built to win now, and quarterback Josh Allen isn't going anywhere any time soon.
Buffalo needs a head coach who can focus on the offense, maximize Allen's potential, and hire a great defensive coordinator to handle that side of the ball. The reverse happened for the Seattle Seahawks two years ago, of course. Mike Macdonald focuses on the defense, calls the plays, and has made that side of the ball into an elite group.
In his first season, Macdonald had Ryan Grubb as offensive coordinator, and that failed. Klint Kubiak, with the help of a quarterback change to Sam Darnold, has, in one season, turned the offense into one of the best in Seattle's history. He's a great coach who likes to run the ball. He would be perfect for the Buffalo Bills, Josh Allen, and the rest of the team's current offensive talent.
As Sean McDermott has just been fired by Buffalo, no names have been released for who the Bills might want to interview to replace the head coach. The timing of the coach is actually fortuitous if Buffalo has their eye on a coach who might still be working with one of the four remaining teams in the playoffs.
No one is going to interview Klint Kubiak this week, but whether the Seahawks defeat the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Championship game or not, the Bills might request a quick call with Kubiak. If Buffalo is smart, it will hire Kubiak as its next head coach.
