Seahawks news: Uchenna Nwosu returns, Myles Adams leaves, AJ Finley says hello
By Lee Vowell
At some points this offseason and during the actual season, the Seattle Seahawks felt a bit like they did in 2010. The team made the playoffs in 2010, sure, but they also made more than 200 moves in an attempt to rebuild the team and get it where head coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Schneider wanted it. Ultimately, as 12s know, things worked out pretty well.
Carroll is gone now, of course, and Schneider has full control over all final roster decisions. Schneider did the normal Seahawks bit of not chasing high-end free agents in March, but he has pulled off a vast number of trades. He has also seen one of his free agent signings, center Connor Williams retire.
On Tuesday, though, Seattle made a bunch of roster moves and saw one long-time Seahawk depart. The good news is that none of the players are expected to have made - or will make - a significant impact on Week 13 when the Seahawks play the New York Jets. There is also some other potentially great news, so let's start there.
Seattle Seahawks expected to get edge rusher Uchenna Nwosu back soon
Nwosu has only played in seven games over the last two seasons. He tore a pec in 2023 and missed the rest of the season after Week 7. This year, Nwosu hurt his knee, missed the first part of the season, returned in Week 5, hurt his quadriceps, and has not played since. He is now eligible to come off of injured reserve and the Seahawks expect him back at practice this week.
Assuming Nwosu stays healthy for the rest of the season, and that is clearly not a safe assumption, then he could be a boost to a Seattle defense that already appears to be improving. Nwosu is excellent against the pass and the run, but, again, when healthy. Head coach Mike Macdonald implied to the media that Nwosu won't be ready to play against the Jets, but possibly in Week 14 versus the Arizona Cardinals.
Seahawks waive defensive lineman Myles Adams
Adams went undrafted out of college but found his way to Seattle's practice squad in 2021 and has gotten some playing time since. He simply has not consistently produced when given the chance, though. This season, he has been more of a healthy scratch for the games he could have played in, though he did see action in three games, and he was in on three tackles.
Adams, however, was part of the many Seattle roster moves on Tuesday, and the defensive lineman was released. One might believe that Adams somehow ends up back with the Seahawks at some point, though. The team kept him around for several seasons because they saw something in him.
Seahawks claim cornerback A.J. Finley
Seattle released Adams to make room for Finley. The cornerback was released by the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday after playing in 10 games this season. He is more of a special teams player, as he only played on 43 snaps on defense this season. He is actually a pretty good tackler. While he might not help much defensively, his ability to bring people down will help in the third phase of the game.
Also on Tuesday, Seattle released running back Brittain Brown and defensive back Faion Hicks from the practice squad. The team signed defensive back Ryan Cooper and wide receiver Cornell Powell to the practice squad, however.
