This week is an important one for the Seattle Seahawks. The team will participate in the 2025 NFL draft, of course, but Seattle is also holding voluntary offseason workouts for veterans. This doesn't consist of much weightlifting, but new players also get their jersey numbers assigned.
One player is returning to Seattle after spending a season away, but he will be wearing a different number than he did previously. That person is quarterback Drew Lock, who wore number 2 in his previous time with the team. He will now wear No. 6, at least for now.
The reason he cannot wear number 2 is that his fellow quarterback, Sam Howell, has that number. Seattle is unlikely to keep three quarterbacks on its active roster, though, and there has been speculation that Howell will be released or traded before the 2025 season begins. Might Lock take his number back if that happens?
Veterans new to the Seahawks get their jersey numbers
Lock and Howell are both backups, however. The Seahawks' new QB1 is Sam Darnold, and he will wear No. 14. He wore that number last year with the Minnesota Vikings, but most recently, it has belonged to DK Metcalf. Metcalf was traded from the Seahawks to the Pittsburgh Steelers this offseason.
Wide receiver Cooper Kupp will get to wear No. 10 because edge rusher Uchenna Nwosu, who has worn that number in Seattle the past few seasons, gave it to Kupp after the receiver donated to Nwosu's foundation.
DeMarcus Lawrence is going to wear No. 0. He wore No. 90 with the Dallas Cowboys, so it'll be a little odd for the defensive end to go to zero. He certainly won't play like nothing, though.
