The Seattle Seahawks usually get decent grades each year when the National Football League Players Association releases its grades for each team. Seattle is rarely at the bottom of the league, and for the 2024 season, the Seahawks ranked 15th out of 32 teams.
There were some telling bits of the grades, though. Even though Mike Macdonald was in his first year as a head coach anywhere, he seems to understand what the players need. He was one of six head coaches to receive a perfect score as every player felt the head coach was efficient with their time. He might need to be more receptive to locker room feedback, according to the players, but that will come with time.
One area of concern was how players felt about ownership, though. This is an area where Seattle normally grades well, so maybe this is a one-year blip of somewhat negativity. Jody Allen and the ownership board were not graded as the worst in the league but ranked in the bottom third in most categories and 23rd overall.
Seattle Seahawks players like Mike Macdonald but feel unsure about Jody Allen
Perhaps most damning was Allen ranking 24th in the league as far as how the players saw her commitment to building a competitive team. If players are talking to each other around the league, and you know they are, those kinds of thoughts are not good to hear for a veteran who might be looking to close his career out with a team seemingly committed to winning a Super Bowl.
Money is extremely important, of course, as players play the game to earn a living, but having a great and winning culture is also important. If some of the players do not think the Seahawks want to win at the highest level then that could affect their play late in the season if the team appears to be going south.
Ownership received an overall grade of C+, but the lowest grade the Seahawks received seemed to be based a lot on how much tub space the players have. The training room received a C with only half the players thinking they had enough personal space when using hot and cold tubs. Of note, the team is choosing to renovate the training room this offseason.
The highest grade was an A for Macdonald, but Seattle received an A- in treatment of families, strength coaches, and team travel.
The Seahawks ranked second in the NFC West. The San Francisco 49ers were number 8, the Los Angeles Rams were 21, and the Arizona Cardinals were last. The Cardinals received three D-minuses (food/dining area, training room, and ownership), an F for their weight room, and (somehow) an F- for their locker room.
