The Seattle Seahawks continued their winning ways of the 2025 NFL draft with another solid pick. He may not be as spectacular as the first four players taken, but he's going to make this veteran sweat.
John Schneider has absolutely crushed the 2025 draft. It's not an exaggeration to say that Seattle pulled off three steals in their first four picks. There's even some debate as to which of those four players would only be a solid pick, as opposed to a felony robbery.
So Schneider could have just rested on his newly-woven laurels. I mean, even Mel Kiper gave the Seahawks GM a shout-out as the star of the 2025 draft. Sure, we really won't know how good any of these players will be for at least a couple more years. That's especially true of the Seahawks' newest quarterback, Jalen Milroe. Sam Darnold doesn't have to worry this year, but in 2026? Yeah. But another Seattle player has every reason to sweat, beginning with training camp.
Seahawks 5th round pick has to make this vet sweat
John Schneider traded down from the fourth round into the fifth and took the 144th overall pick. Then he traded Sam Howell to the Vikings along with the 172nd overall pick for pick number 142. I don't know about you, but I'm feeling dizzy.
Once the dust settled, the Seahawks drafted defensive tackle Rylie Mills, who projects as a solid defensive tackle or end in the NFL. At 6'5" and 291 pounds, he's a perfect fit for the Seahawks at end. He racked up 7.5 sacks and 8.5 tackles for a loss in his senior season. He played in 62 games at Notre Dame, a strong testament to his ability.
The one negative for Mills is that he tore his ACL versus Indiana in the College Football Playoff. So it's likely that he won't be ready for the start of this season. That being said, he has all the tools to succeed in the league. The only player for the Seahawks that needs to be worried now is Mike Morris.
Morris is virtually the same size as Mills and has been used similarly, as I expect the Seahawks to deploy their new lineman. After two seasons in Seattle, Morris has just 96 snaps on defense. Even though he has ties with head coach Mike Macdonald as a Michigan product, Morris should be sweating at this point.
