The Seattle Seahawks truly needed some comp picks in the 2025 NFL draft. The team has not normally been one to receive comps because Seattle usually breaks even with free agents lost and free agents gained, and the quality that lies within. Not last offseason, though. Seattle ended up losing more than they gained.

Based on projected comp picks, based on what Over The Cap has put together, the Seahawks should get three extra picks in the draft beyond what they had naturally. Most importantly, Seattle was empty in rounds four and five until the comps were projected. Now, Seattle has those back.

General manager John Schneider also likes to play around with his picks during a draft. He often trades picks to move up or even down and the order is rearranged. While the Seahawks might have eight picks entering the draft, they could come away with 10. Or five. It depends on what Schneider hopes to do with his draft plan.

Let's hope that head coach Mike Macdonald has a bit more input into this year's draft. Sure, his opinion was not without value to Schneider in 2024, but at the time, Macdonald had not yet coached a game for Seattle, so Schneider was in firm control of anything that happened draft-wise. How well did those selections end up?

First-round choice Byron Murphy II was decent but not great. Third-round pick Christian Haynes was an absolute bust. Fourth-round selections AJ Barner and Tyrice Knight turned out to be pretty good. Sixth-round choice D.J. James did not even make the team. The others, fifth-rounder Nehemiah Pritchett, and sixth-rounders Nehemiah Pritchett and Michael Jerrell were not positively impactful.

In other words, Schneider needs to do a better job with the 2025 draft than he did in his first draft without Pete Carroll last year. At least now, Schneider has a few more picks to try to get winners.

After the projected comp picks, this is where the Seahawks are slotted to choose in April:

  • First round: One pick at number 18 overall
  • Second round: One pick at number 50 overall
  • Third round: One pick at number 82 overall
  • Fourth round: One pick at number 136 overall
  • Fifth round: One pick at number 172 overall
  • Sixth round: Two picks at numbers 186 and 211, respectively
  • Seventh round: One pick at number 235 overall
