The Seattle Seahawks will get quarterback Sam Darnold back in Week 3 after an absence that covers most of two games due to a glute injury. The problem Darnold might face against the Washington Commanders isn't so much the opposing defense as the weather. It is likely going to rain, and the wind could have an impact, too.
According to the Weather Channel, the chance of rain is fairly low until around kickoff at 10 am PT (that is 1 pm local time for those 12s going to the game), at which point the chance ticks up to 41 percent and then increases throughout the game.
But the Seahawks are used to playing in wet conditions, of course. The Pacific Northwest gets a lot of heavy drizzle, of course. What could impact Seattle's offense is the wind, which stays around 14-15 mph throughout Sunday's contest. Heavier gusts are also possible.
Weather conditions for the Seattle Seahawks against the Washington Commanders aren't perfect
Head coach Mike Macdonald's team has the better roster, even though Seattle will be missing starting safeties Julian Love and Ty Okada. On sheer talent, the Seahawks should get another road victory at the 10 am PT slot. The team won all three of its games at that time last season, and has won 19 of its last 24 at 10 am.
But the weather could affect the game a bit. If the wind gets too rough, the Seattle Seahawks might choose to run a bit more than normal, and the team already runs the ball more than most in the NFL (third most through two games). The Commanders aren't good defensively but are better against the run.
Whereas Washington is easily the worst in the league through two games in quarterback rating allowed (137.1) and has allowed 71.4 percent of the passes thrown against them to be completed, the Commanders are 15th in the NFL in rushing yards allowed per game (101.0) and haven't allowed a rushing touchdown yet.
The Seahawks will have rookie running back Jadarian Price available after he left Week 2 early with a shoulder issue, but he might find succeeding when trying to grind out yards. Sam Darnold could have an easier time throwing to wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, but not if the weather is hampering what offensive coordinator Brian Fleury is trying to do.
Hopefully, the rain holds off, and the wind isn't as bad as it appears it might be. Otherwise, Seattle might have to get an ugly win on the road.
