Can this be real or not? That is the question. The Seattle Seahawks could use another edge rusher. Every NFL team could. Even if a team has three very good ones, edge rushers work best in a rotation. Why not add another two, if one could?
Seattle might have four good players at the position. The problem is that one of them, Uchenna Nwosu, is seemingly always injured, so that leaves the Seahawks with three. DeMarcus Lawrence is 33 years old, however, and new to the team, so how will he adapt? Maybe it would help if Seattle added his former teammate, Micah Parsons, to the mix.
That idea seems ludicrous, sure. But Matthew Schmidt of Sports Illustrated has a keen view of why a Parsons to Seattle move makes sense. For starters, the Dallas Cowboys' pass rusher is not happy with his contract situation, and he could hit free agency next offseason.
Proposed trade options for the Seattle Seahawks for Micah Parsons make a lot of sense
Dallas could try to sign him to an extension, but there have been mixed signals there. The Cowboys could also franchise tag the elite player and basically force him to stick around. Or Dallas could choose to trade Parsons in hopes of getting back a huge haul to help the Cowboys build for the future.
This is where the Seahawks come in. Schmidt is also on the right track as far as what it might take for Seattle to pry away the two-time First-Team All-Pro. In other words, a lot. Plus, Seattle would likely have to give up one of its young edge rushers to acquire Parsons.
Schmidt offers a few options for the Cowboys to consider should they read the article (and Jerry Jones should read it out loud to the Dallas front office).
The SI writer first dangles Derick Hall as part of the package to acquire Parsons. Hall is an interesting player because he was awful as a rookie in 2023, and then fairly productive with eight sacks in his second season. In 2025, he could have a monster season, his second in head coach Mike Macdonald's scheme.
Besides moving Hall, Seattle could trade Boye Mafe instead. This could make more sense for the Seahawks because Mafe is set to be a free agent next offseason. The Cowboys might prefer Hall since he is signed through 2026, but Mafe might leave Seattle anyway, so there might be too much lost.
Plus, Parsons is better than Mafe, just as Parsons is arguably better than anyone else in the NFL as far as edge rushers go.
In addition to either Mafe or Hall, Schmidt offers that Seattle would likely need to give the Cowboys one first-round pick, and either a second-rounder or a selection in the third round. That is a lot, but Parsons might be worth it.
The might part is important. Even after adding Parsons, they will need to give him an extension to make the deal worth it. The Seattle Seahawks have the cap room in the future to do so, but Micah Parsons will take a big chunk of it. He might also be the kind of player who gets Seattle one step closer to a second Super Bowl victory.
