The Seattle Seahawks don't have any glaring roster needs right now. However, that doesn't mean they shouldn't make any moves. If anything, they have the wiggle room, depth, and money to get a little greedy.
General manager John Schneider isn't the one to spend cash just for the sake of it. That said, everybody will be aiming for their crown in 2026, so they should keep an eye out for proven veterans with a chip on their shoulders, even after signing Dante Fowler Jr. to a one-year deal.
That's why Bradley Locker of Pro Football Focus (subscription required) believes they should make a run at Joey Bosa. While he's no longer at the peak of his powers, he'd give them a prime replacement for the recently departed Boye Mafe.
The Seattle Seahawks can afford to gamble on Joey Bosa
"The Seahawks witnessed underrated edge defender Boye Mafe head to Cincinnati in free agency but have yet to directly replace his role. Bosa would be a slam-dunk find," Locker wrote. "Even though Bosa is less effective against the run, his terrific pass-rush acumen would allow the league’s deepest edge-rushing group to remain dangerous in 2026."
Bosa has a long history of injuries and is about to turn 31. That said, he's coming off leading the league with five forced fumbles, adding 29 total tackles (17 solo), nine tackles for loss, 16 QB hits, five sacks, and two passes defensed in 15 games (all starts) for the Buffalo Bills.
Spotrac projects his market value at just $13.7 million per year. That might be a bit too steep for an aging veteran, but Bosa has proven to be a difference-maker when he's healthy. He's been mostly available for the past two years, and he clearly still has plenty left in the tank.
Granted, Bosa isn't the most proficient defender against the run, but he's been one of the prime headhunters in the league for most of the next decade. The Seahawks like to rotate their Rolodex of pass-rushers, and having him as a situational guy in obvious pass situations would be overkill for Aden Durde's defense.
The Seahawks didn't have many suitable options in the NFL draft, and Mafe's departure was concerning. Even if he wasn't a starter, the Seahawks have a major hole to fill in that unit, especially with DeMarcus Lawrence reportedly contemplating retirement. Fowler should mitigate some of those concerns, but the Seahawks must do whatever it takes to protect their crown.
More importantly, stealing Bosa might be a double win for the reigning Super Bowl champions. The San Francisco 49ers might want to pair him with his brother Nick, and facing off against them twice a year isn't a recipe for success.
This team can afford to make some risky bets in the offseason, and taking a five-time Pro Bowler while stopping him from joining a divisional rival would certainly be worth that type of cash.
