Seahawks can’t ignore one trade target who could fix everything

How much would it cost?

Head coach Mike Macdonald is likely not going to be satisfied with one Super Bowl victory with the Seattle Seahawks. He will want more, and maybe as soon as next season. For that to happen, the team is going to have to find a fitting replacement for running back Kenneth Walker.

One name that keeps popping up as a potential trade target is the New York Jets' Breece Hall. That includes a recent article by FOX Sports' Ralph Vacchiano, who projects one player each NFC team should trade for. Hall coming to Seattle makes sense within reason.

The question would be how much general manager John Schneider would have to give up for the running back, and therein lies the rub. Vacchiano has Seattle giving New York a 2026 third-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round selection. That might be a tad too much, especially for the Seahawks, who only have four picks in the 2026 draft.

NFL analyst suggests the Seattle Seahawks should trade for Breece Hall

Vacchiano writes, "The cost would be at least a third-round pick, which was reportedly what the Jets were asking for at the deadline last year. A running back like Hall is an unnecessary luxury for a team like the Jets headed for the bottom of the standings, but he could instantly make the Seahawks an even bigger threat to repeat as Super Bowl champs."

I'm not sure Hall would qualify as a "luxury" on the Jets, as New York is obviously trying to build itself into a winner. The running back is an extremely important cog to the Jets' offense, and is necessary for the team to have much production. That makes him the opposite of a luxury.

Still, Vacchiano isn't wrong that Hall would make sense to replace Kenneth Walker. Seattle has a new offensive coordinator, Brian Fleury, who is likely going to want to have a run-focused offense, just as outgoing OC Klint Kubiak did. For that to work, the Seahawks obviously need good running backs.

The team might have one with Zach Charbonnet, but the problem is that he tore his ACL in the playoffs, and it is unknown if he will be fully healed by Week 1 (or even Week 4) of next season. Behind Charbonnet is a promising but mostly unproven group of backs. Hall would be an immediate remedy to any worries Schneider, Mike Macdonald, and Fleury have about the RBs.

Hall has had at least 1,359 yards from scrimmage in each season in the past three years. While he fumbled six times in 2024, he hasn't done that more than twice in any other season. He is consistent and has the kind of downhill approach that should work well in Fleury's presumed scheme.

The other aspect of why giving up a third-round pick for Breece Hall might work for the Seattle Seahawks is that this year's draft isn't overly good. Schneider is already on pace to have 11 selections in 2027, so not having a slew of picks this April might not be such a huge problem.
