The Seattle Seahawks are for sale, and the current ownership group hopes to be done with the process by the end of the year. While the NFL isn't going to put out anything official about who is bidding and who isn't, at least not now, Sportico is reporting that former Boston Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck is prepping a bid.

If the report is true, Grousbeck would be joined in the bid by Aditya Mittal, who was an investor in the Celtics and is a member of one of the richest families in India. He had invested $1 billion into the Boston NBA team, but has quite a bit more money than that.

The good part about the news comes from FanSided Boston Celtics expert Ben Handler. Handler runs Hardwood Houdini and recently covered Grousbeck selling the Celtics for $6.1 billion. Among the Boston area professional teams, Grousbeck was the most popular owner, and one who was hands-off, letting the basketball people make basketball decisions.

Boston Celtics expert raves about reported new bidders for the Seattle Seahawks

Handler said, "Grousbeck was great in Boston. (He was) very present but also hands-off. Hired people he trusted to run the team and stayed out of their way, but was constantly courtside (and) seemed like a genuine fan...most fans were devastated when (they) found out he was selling the Celtics."

In other words, if the Seahawks are going to be sold, then Grousbeck and Mittal, who could invest the most amount of money, would appear to be the perfect transition from the Allen family. Paul Allen and then his sister, Jody, absolutely let the football people make the decisions.

Sure, it was the Allens' money that was paying all involved, but Paul and Jody were smart enough to know that while they understood how money worked, they didn't exactly know who might make the best starting left tackle for Seattle. They were very much the anti-Jerry Jones of the NFL.

Grousbeck and Mittal would appear to operate in the same way. Seahawks fans might see Grousbeck on the field a lot more than they ever saw Paul or Jody Allen, but his presence there would be more about cheering the team on than trying to give input on head coach Mike Macdonald's on-field decisions.

One would hope that those people wanting to own a professional sports franchise would do so because they loved the sport. That certainly isn't always the case, but it would be if Grousbeck and Mittal could outbid everyone else in buying the Seahawks.

According to Sportico, "Mittal contributed about $1 billion to the 2025 Celtics takeover, his first major move into U.S. sports. Mittal and Grousbeck were the only signatures on the letter of interest submitted to Allen & Company, which was hired to handle the sale, according to the people, who were granted anonymity because the details are private. Since Mittal lives in London, Grousbeck would reside in Seattle part-time and effectively operate the franchise. They are the first bidders to be publicly identified."

Of course, how close the Seattle Seahawks are to finalizing a sale of the team isn't known, but at least the first known bidders are promising. Maybe 12s will be lucky enough that Wyc Grousbeck and Aditya Mittal are able to buy the team.
