Seahawks circling Cowboys pass rusher with strong Aden Durde ties

Would the move be worth it?

The Seattle Seahawks were big winners last offseason when longtime Dallas Cowboys edge rusher DeMarcus Lawrence chose to sign with Seattle in free agency. Another former Cowboy player might be thinking of doing the same thing.

According to NFL insider Mike Garafolo, Dante Fowler visited with the Seahawks this week. Fowler has bounced around the league quite a bit and will be 32 years old by the time next season begins, but he does stay healthy. Fowler hasn't missed a game since 2021.

More importantly, he has ties to Seattle defensive coordinator Aden Durde, as Durde was a position coach for Dallas when Fowler was there in 2022 and 2023, and the DC was also an outside linebacker coach for the Atlanta Falcons during the 2020 season when Fowler was there, too.

In other words, if any coach is thinking he can get the best of the productive edge rusher, it is Durde, and general manager John Schneider would certainly be asking the defensive coordinator what he thinks about Fowler's fit in Seattle. If all goes smoothly, Fowler joining the Seahawks would make sense.

Seattle lost Boye Mafe in free agency, and the team would no doubt like to have a fourth edge player to go along with an excellent core group of Derick Hall, DeMarcus Lawrence, and Uchenna Nwosu. Fowler is not without his drawbacks, however.

According to Cowboys expert Jerry Trotta of The Landry Hat, Fowler is "a serviceable pass-rusher, but not really effective against the run," despite how Pro Football Focus (subscription required) might have graded his run defense in 2025.

Head coach Mike Macdonald, who still makes the defensive calls for the Seahawks, likes to have players with positional flexibility. This normally means not having an edge rusher, for instance, who is only a third-down rotational defender. The reason is that Macdonald likes to disguise his alignments, and having Fowler on the field would limit the coach's creativity.

Still, over his 10-year career, Dante Fowler has been productive as a pass-rusher. While he had just three sacks in 2025, he had 10.5 in 2024. The question about whether to bring him aboard, especially with his ties to Aden Durde, might simply come down to money.

The Seattle Seahawks currently have quite a bit to spend, and can afford nearly any player relatively easily, but Fowler shouldn't cost much. According to Spotrac, the edge rusher's market value is $5.1 million in 2026, and that seems to be right. If John Schneider is comfortable with Fowler's fit in the Seahawks culture, Fowler could be signed within the next two weeks.
