The Seattle Seahawks recently got some promising news in that edge rusher Uchenna Nwosu began some non-contact drills and has been medically cleared to get back to playing football. Head coach Mike Macdonald has been mum on whether Nwosu will play in Week 1 versus the San Francisco 49ers, though.
The truth is that the team probably doesn't know if Nwosu's surgically repaired knee is quite ready to hold up against the punishment of the NFL. There is no need to rush him back.
Due to Nwosu's injury, the free agent signing of former Dallas Cowboys edge rusher DeMarcus Lawrence is looking even better. The key for Lawrence is that he needs to stay healthy, too. He missed 13 games last season.
The Seattle Seahawks should make an attempt to add Cincinnati Bengals edge rusher Trey Hendrickson
Seattle still has young players Boye Mafe and Derick Hall at edge rusher, too. The group overall could be excellent, but there are health concerns, too. And while the Seahawks should have a very good defense, with one move, the unit could become elite, and possibly the best in the league.
Cincinnati Bengals edge rusher Trey Hendrickson has had back-to-back 17.5-sack seasons, and he is unhappy with his current contract situation. He wants an extension past 2025, and the team isn't rushing to give him one. Maybe they can't after extending receivers Tee Higgins and Ja'Marr Chase this offseason.
Cincy has also reportedly been open to entertaining trade ideas from other teams. The Seattle Seahawks have not been one of the teams mentioned, according to Ian Rapoport or Adam Schefter, but the rumors of a potential trade might be implied by Hendrickson's agent instead of the team.
The Bengals should see what they can get for the 30-year-old Trey Hendrickson. His trade value would never be higher. If Seattle were able to add him, he would be the equivalent of former Seahawks star Cliff Avril. At age 30, Avril had his best season with the Seahawks with 11.5 sacks.
The hope would be that Hendrickson would stay healthier past 30 than Avril did, but just as Avril did for Seattle when the team acquired him in 2013, the current Bengals edge rusher could immediately help turn the Seahawks into a Super Bowl threat.
Seattle is going to win because of a strong defense and an efficient offense in 2025. Adding Trey Hendrickson would augment the group. The Seahawks would then have to give Hendrickson an extension, but Seattle can afford it.
