Roster decisions were likely affected, too.

The Seattle Seahawks begin their 2025 regular season on September 7, but already the team is dealing with a lot of injuries that could affect how the roster looks when the real games begin. Most of the presumed starters are fine (so far), but depth is going to be a struggle.

Speaking with the media this week, head coach Mike Macdonald provided a breakdown of what is going on with many players. What 12s have likely learned since Macdonald became the head coach in 2024 is that there won't be a lot of details applied to how badly a player is hurt.

Suppose a player is going to be out a long time, sure. We will get that information. But if a player is going to miss a game or three, Seahawks fans have probably gotten used to Macdonald saying there is no timeline for a return. That might happen in a day or a month.

One starter that is still questionable for Week 1 is linebacker Tyrice Knight. He was surprisingly good as a rookie last season, and was entrenched as one inside linebacker while Ernest Jones IV is the other. Knight has been dealing with a knee issue.

Macdonald said that Knight is expected to practice in full next week, and depending on how that goes will determine whether he can play against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 1. Knight is at practice in pads this week, but is not at full go.

The same is true of rookie wide receiver Tory Horton. After having a fantastic training camp and solid preseason Week 1, he suffered an ankle injury and has missed a lot of practice. Maybe he will be fine in practice next week.

If there is any doubt as to Horton's availability, this could mean that veteran Marquez Valdes-Scantling has a much better chance at making the 53-man roster. MVS has been underwhelming in camp and could be a cut candidate.

Receiver Jake Bobo is still in concussion protocol after getting injured in preseason Week 3 on an attempted punt return. He might be fine for Week 1, but concussions can be tricky.

Defensive lineman Mike Morris, who had his best training camp of his career, also has a concussion and is in protocol, too. He was hurt during the Seahawks and Packers joint practice last week.

Edge rusher Uchenna Nwosu is back at practice, but like Knight, is not yet at full go. Nwosu had offseason knee surgery and has not yet been a full participant in practice. Mike Macdonald said the team is hoping he can be full-go next week, but one might safely doubt his availability versus the 49ers.

Defensive tackle Jonathan Hankins is a real question. The team re-signed him this offseason, but he is struggling with a back issue. He might have issues playing regularly this year.

Underperforming offensive lineman Christian Haynes aggravated a pec injury and didn't play in preseason Week 3. Macdonald said there is a timeline for his return. It will be interesting to see if Haynes is part of the 53-man roster.
