Seahawks have dream Jaxon Smith-Njigba running mate sitting in free agency

It will be costly, though.

The Seattle Seahawks finished 14-3 and with the top seed in the NFC playoffs despite the fact that the team only had one wide receiver who could consistently produce. Jaxon Smith-Njigba, after all, had 1,200 more receiving yards than any of his teammates, and that isn't sustainable.

Seattle will have a decision to make on wideout Rashid Shaheed, and the team should re-sign him, but his production as a wide receiver will be hit-and-miss. He is an elite kick and punt returner, and that is where his real value lies.

Seattle is obviously going to keep JSN around for years to come, but he will need help. That help could come in the form of Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce. Pierce, though, will likely garner $20 million a season in his new contract, but the Seahawks can afford that.

Seattle Seahawks should chase wide receiver Alec Pierce in free agency

Pierce has led the NFL in yards per catch in each of the last two seasons. In 2025, he also showed he can do more than simply run post routes. He created explosive plays on crossing patterns with regularity. He is 6'3" and fast, and he understands how to use his size deep down the field to shield defenders from the ball.

According to Spotrac, Seattle will have a projected $63,958,878 in cap room. The Seahawks do need to spend some money on re-signing players whose rookie contracts are ending. The list includes running back Kenneth Walker, edge rusher Boye Mafe, and cornerback Riq Woolen. Those players collectively could combine to eat up $45 million of the cap.

The cap will also likely be higher than projections currently have. That seems to happen every year. This means the Seahawks could have a bit more money to spend that is currently assumed.

Besides JSN and, presumably, Shaheed, the Seahawks wide receiver group would consist of Cooper Kupp, a great blocker and team leader but no longer overly productive in terms of receiving yards, second-year Tory Horton (whose long-term health might be in question), and a host of bigger receivers who can block well, while catching the occasional pass.

Alec Pierce, who has been underused in the Indianapolis Colts' offense because of the way the system is structured, will almost certainly have his targets and the rest of his raw statistics increase a great deal if he played for Seattle. He would also be the replacement for DK Metcalf, who would help Jaxon Smith-Njigba in the future, and Pierce would be a better teammate.
