But...what?

One day, long after Russell Wilson retires, he needs to become a spokesperson for something. Perhaps it's a politician, or perhaps a large company. The Seattle Seahawks legend is skilled at providing the media with meaningless information that he presents as important.

Wilson also tries to spin the news his way. Many athletes and politicians do this, of course, but the strange part is that Wilson appears to know no other way. It was clear, for instance, that this offseason there were few takers for his services as a quarterback.

He eventually signed with the New York Giants, but the Giants were so unsure that Wilson is the long-term QB1 that they also signed Jameis Winston in free agency and chose Jaxson Dart in the first round of the 2025 NFL draft.

Former Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson won't stop with the lack of reality

To hear Wilson explain his move to New York, one would think he was in command of the situation and had many potential suitors. He didn't, and if he underperforms with the Giants, which he easily could, he might not find another NFL home in 2026.

Speaking at Fanatics Fest, Wilson uttered these words: "I came here because of (Malik Nabers). I really wanted to play with someone who is special like him."

While social media can be an exceedingly toxic environment, many times the truths spoken there are both harsh and correct. If one finds a post of Wilson saying the words above, undoubtedly one of the first responses will be something like, "Bro. You went there cuz no one else wanted you."

Wilson thought he was bigger than the team after spending a decade with the Seattle Seahawks, and he went to ownership to have general manager John Schneider and then-head coach Pete Carroll fired. Instead of Carroll and Schneider being let go, the quarterback was traded to the Denver Broncos.

Wilson washed out after two miserable seasons with Denver, and they released him, eating $85 million in dead cap by doing so.

Last season, the quarterback signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and after a solid start after coming back from injury midway through the season, Wilson led the Steelers to five straight losses to end the year. Wilson was not asked back after his one-season deal was done.

But based on Wilson's comments about wanting to play with the excellent Malik Nabers, the quarterback apparently maintains an odd reality about himself. He needs to learn to understand that he doesn't come across as humble, but blindly arrogant. This is why people doubt him and teams begin to lose faith in him, and the entire scenario is simply sad.
