Seahawks fans might be split on this final draft move for Michael Dansby

Eight is enough.

The Seattle Seahawks began the 2026 NFL draft with only four picks. One each in the first three rounds, and one on Day 3. That certainly changed. The team ended up with five on the final day, and three of those came in the seventh round.

With the final selection of the draft for general manager John Schneider's team, Seattle took Arizona cornerback Michael Dansby. How much of a chance he has to make the 2026 roster is unknown. Maybe they are small, but the team has made its bones since Schneider joined the team in 2010 by making diamonds in the rough into true stars.

The fifth round alone has produced winners such as Kam Chancellor, Richard Sherman, and Riq Woolen. The seventh round has seen the Seahawks take Chris Carson.

Will Dansby be the next late-round great? The 5'11" cornerback seems to fit more into a slot mold than an outside corner, but the slot is currently held down by Pro Bowl Devon Witherspoon. Dansby might need to earn his bones as a special teamer.

Either way, the risk for the Seattle Seahawks is small. Michael Dansby is unlikely to take anyone's roster spot and will need to show he can help in the third phase of the game before he gets a real opportunity on defense. He did have two interceptions last season with Arizona, and took the ball away at San Jose State before he transferred to the Wildcats.

Maybe that is what head coach Mike Macdonald and Schneider are hoping for: That Dansby can turn even more into a ball-hawk and eventually, through takeaways in practice, become a rotational piece in the Seattle secondary. He still has a lot to prove to be able to do that, but he might learn from Macdonald exactly what to do.

Overall, the Seattle Seahawks went from four picks initially to eight overall. Many of those came late, and nothing is lost if the later-round players don't make the team. The draft class doesn't appear to be overly special, but many have thought that before with the Seahawks and been very wrong.
