The Seattle Seahawks might have a clear starting running back in 2026, but NFL drafts are about the long-term future and not just the following season. That is why what one unnamed NFL coach said about Notre Dame's Jadarian Price should matter to 12s.
The assumption is that the first running back taken in this year's draft will be Price's college teammate, Jeremiyah Love. Love could even go as early as pick No. 3 overall, and is widely considered to be one of the best, if not the best, players in the draft.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, though, the unnamed coach said, "Jadarian Price is the best pure runner in the draft, but Love is the best pure player in the draft."
One coach raves about potential Seattle Seahawks draft pick Jadarian Price
Seattle is not going to be able to get Love, of course. The team won the Super Bowl this past season, meaning that the Seahawks will have the 32nd pick overall, and the last in the first round (and the last in the next two rounds, too). General manager John Schneider might still find a player he needs with Price because running backs aren't overvalued in drafts.
Price could fall until late in the first round, or, if the Seahawks are really lucky, into the first part of the second round. This is important as Seattle only has four selections in 2026, and Schneider might try to add more by trading back out of the first round. If he can do that and Price is still available, the situation would be a win-win.
Seattle's presumed starter next season would be Zach Charbonnet, but he tore his ACL in the playoffs, and whether he can be fully healthy by Week 1 is a real question. Maybe he can play, but if he isn't 100 percent, he won't be as productive as the Seahawks would hope.
Charbonnet is also entering the final year of his rookie contract and will be a free agent next offseason unless he signs an extension. This means that the Seahawks might need to take a running back in the 2026 draft who needs to start in Week 1 of next season and be the starter for several years afterward.
If Jadarian Price is the best pure runner, as the unnamed coach suggested, then he will be a huge boon to what the new offensive coordinator, Brian Fleury, wants to do. The running back does have one glaring issue he needs to fix, though.
He struggled with fumbles in 2025, and his three fumbles were all inside the opponent's 10-yard line. If he has the same issue in the NFL, Price isn't going to be allowed to play. Still, if he can have better ball security and lands with the Seattle Seahawks, John Schneider might just pick his next gem late in the first round, or early in the second round, of the 2026 NFL draft.
