This is ugly.

The Seattle Seahawks seem snake-bitten in 2026. For example, the recently acquired Quenton Nelson hadn't missed a game since 2021 before being dealt from the Indianapolis Colts to Seattle. He will now miss his second potential game with the Seahawks with a knee issue.

Nelson isn't the only key player missing as head coach Mike Macdonald's team prepares to face the Arizona Cardinals in Week 9. Arizona hasn't defeated the Seahawks since 2021. That could change this week.

Nelson is out after having a "minor" procedure on his knee, one that the team claims the left guard had before he was traded by Indianapolis. The other players missing read like a who's-who of Pro Bowlers.

Leonard Williams, Uchenna Nwosu, Charles Cross, Sam Darnold, Rashid Shaheed, and backup nose guard Brandon Pili will also miss the game. In terms of final weekly injury reports, Week 9 is as ugly as it gets for the Seahawks. The players who will miss the game might be too much to overcome even against the Cardinals.

In fact, the Seahawks seem to be a diminishing squad that is trending toward missing the playoffs. Almost all the losses in Week 9 are brutal. The team won't have its starting quarterback, its new left guard, its best defensive lineman, its left tackle, arguably its most well-rounded edge rusher, and its best kick and punt returner.

If Seattle were facing a team like the San Francisco 49ers or the Chicago Bears again, Mike Macdonald's team would rightfully be expected to lose by at least two touchdowns. Against a motivated Cardinals team that is smelling blood and having its best chance to beat Seattle in a half-decade, they might win by 10 points.

A 4-5 record is not only a realistic possibility for the Seattle Seahawks, but an expectation. Seattle faces an improved Las Vegas Raiders team in Week 10, and then comes the bye week. Seattle could easily be 4-6 by the time it returns to play.

Forget the playoffs and the trade deadline. There could be no saving this team. Looking ahead to 2027 is probably the only thing to do. Roster changes could be inevitable, and a change of offensive coordinator could be, too.

If the Seahawks defeat the Cardinals, one of the worst organizations in the NFL, with such a banged-up roster, a miracle will have happened. At least there is always next year, 12s.
