The Seattle Seahawks made one of the biggest trades of the John Schneider era, acquiring All-Pro left guard Quenton Nelson from the Indianapolis Colts. Unfortunately, it didn't help them in Week 8 vs. the Chicago Bears.
Nelson's addition may have shaken up the entire offseason picture for the defending Super Bowl champions. His presence will push other guys out of the door, and Schneider may have to reconsider some of his decisions.
The Seahawks risk losing some of their key veterans this offseason, though most of their core guys are still under contract for a while longer. Considering that, let's dive into the Seahawks' free agent picture after Week 8.
Checking in on key Seattle Seahawks veterans after Week 8
Quenton Nelson will get paid
Nelson and the Colts didn't see eye to eye on a new deal, and he's now projected to become the highest-paid guard in the history of the game. The Seahawks were well aware of that when they decided to trade for him.
The former All-Pro is looking at something in the four-year, $96 million range. That's obviously a ton of money for an interior offensive lineman, but he might be the key to unlocking this team's subpar running game. Also, he's just entering his prime.
Anthony Bradford is on his way out
With Nelson in the picture, the writing is on the wall for Anthony Bradford. The Seahawks were never going to give up on Grey Zabel, and he's now moved to right guard. That means Bradford's days in Seattle are all but over.
The Seahawks may have been thinking about this decision for a while now. They drafted Iowa's Beau Stephens as a potential replacement, but now that Nelson is in town, Bradford should hire a real estate agent pretty soon.
Zach Charbonnet still has time to get his due
The Seahawks spoon-fed Zach Charbonnet in his first game back from a major injury. The numbers might not be impressive, but he looked physical, sharp, and willing to absorb contact, and his pass- blocking was on point.
The running game has been an issue all year, but things should improve once Nelson gets acclimated. Maybe Charbonnet can also make a big enough impact to earn himself another contract with the team that drafted him.
Uchenna Nwosu keeps playing himself out of Seattle
Uchenna Nwosu is criminally underrated, but that's what happens when you play on such a stacked team. The Seahawks' deep pass rush might lose a key contributor if DeMarcus Lawrence retires, and he might not be alone in his departure.
This season, Nwosu has logged three passes defensed, one sack, one forced fumble, 15 tackles, two tackles for loss, and three quarterback hits. He's about to command north of $15 million a season, and the Seahawks may not want to pay him that much.
