Championship rings usually dazzle everyone with their unique design and look, because no ring is exactly the same. When it comes to taking things to a whole other level, the Super Bowl rings created and gifted to the Seattle Seahawks are exactly that: a whole other level.Â
Not only are the rings spectacular to look at, but they're also the largest and most technologically advanced Super Bowl rings in NFL history, and Grey Zabel can now add one to his Super Bowl win as a member of the Seahawks.Â
Zabel is coming off an excellent rookie season, and what made his first year in the NFL particularly special was getting to experience what it feels like to win it all so early in his NFL journey. That said, the Seahawks expect Zabel to be a significant piece of their franchise for years to come, which is why his recent comments about getting his ring are so important.Â
Seattle Seahawks' Grey Zabel is ready for the next step after the Super Bowl ring fever passes
Zabel was not only excellent during the regular season for the Seahawks, but he was instrumental during their playoff run as well. It didn't take long for Zabel to secure his starting spot at left guard, and he never let go afterward. This past season was the first in a while where the Seahawks front line looked formidable, and Zabel had much to do with that shift.
Now gearing up for his second season, Zabel, while still early on in his football journey, is expected to take a significant step forward and continue to help hold down the line in front of quarterback Sam Darnold. Much of Darnold's success last year was due to his offensive line's hard work.Â
There is nothing wrong with celebrating receiving a long-awaited Super Bowl ring, and Zabel is certainly excited for that moment, while speaking to the media recently, but did not forget to point out that afterward, it's back to work.Â
"We’re going to have a ton of fun," Zabel said. "Probably have a few brewskis ... and enjoy each other and then just move on."
Zabel's final words are key because they are just that: moving on. Moving on through the offseason, and moving on to next season, where Zabel and the Seahawks will be defending their championship, and looking to repeat.
What's amazing about Zabel's situation is that not only is he already an integral part of the Seahawks' offense, but he's playing for a franchise that can genuinely repeat as champions.
Speaking of the Seahawks' offense, Zabel also stated that it feels pretty close to last season's. That's good news, considering the free agency loss of Kenneth Walker III, who was a big reason why the Seahawks won the Super Bowl in the first place. He was the game's MVP, after all.Â
Zabel's comments reflect what level of continuity might be rolling through Seattle's offense, though. The Seahawks boasted one of the most dangerous offenses last season and are expected to look that way again next season. If Zabel is seeing close similarities, that's good news for Seahawks fans.Â
As for Zabel and his job, moving on from the celebrations is the right frame of mind. When the Seahawks take the field to meet the New England Patriots in Week 1, all celebrations are of the past, starting from scratch on day one. Today's Super Bowl ring is nice, but it's about getting that second one that will be the new goal.Â
