Seahawks handed another receipt as Cardinals’ Will Johnson talks too big

Say what now?

Arizona Cardinals cornerback Will Johnson appears to be in great spirits following a promising yet injury-riddled rookie campaign. He might be feeling a bit too good, though, and the Seattle Seahawks won't forget his recent comments.

Johnson said he's excited to try keeping pace with the rest of the powerhouse NFC West during an appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio. The idea of keeping company with three of the league's best teams, including the reigning Super Bowl champion Seahawks, fuels him.

"I love it," Johnson stated. "I wouldn't want it any other way. That's the best. You get to go against the best every week, and that's how you prove you're the best. ... I think we got a good opportunity in front of us to surprise a lot of people this year."

Seattle Seahawks get more bulletin board material after Cardinals’ Will Johnson talks huge game

Are you sure about all that, Will? Does facing fellow cellar dwellers like the Cleveland Browns, New York Jets, and Miami Dolphins twice annually not sound more appealing? At least then, Arizona would stand a chance of competing.

Who wants to remind Johnson that the Cardinals went a combined 0-6 versus the Seahawks, Rams, and 49ers in 2025? Or that Seattle put up a combined 67 points in their two meetings? Oh, and that four of those defeats weren't just by double digits; they were three-plus-score drubbings.

Iron sharpens iron, as Johnson alluded to, yet this is more of an iron-sharpens-Silly-Putty situation. There are levels to football (and life), and frankly, Arizona is nowhere near its peers. They're the goofy-looking dragon in the viral three-headed monster meme, accompanied by menacing counterparts who are only connected by league structure.

The Cardinals seem to be entering 2026 with irrational confidence following a disastrous 3-14 effort. Veteran linebacker Mack Wilson Sr. has spoken like they're the squad to beat in the division — not the Seahawks, who just won the title.

Wilson boldly said the Los Angeles Rams "still have to deal with" the Cardinals after acquiring future Hall of Fame pass rusher Myles Garrett. The fact that a question like this wasn't asked about Seattle is disrespectful in itself, let alone the unserious response.

Now, Johnson is the latest member of the Cardinals to poke the bear that is the Seahawks. Perhaps it's because the 2025 second-round pick wasn't available for either of their showdowns last season. Either way, he's in for a rude awakening.
