Seahawks have a Josh Jobe decision they can’t ignore now

Jobe balled out on the biggest stage, and Riq Woolen could be gone.

There were a handful of Seattle Seahawks players that single handedly helped bring down the New England Patriots to win the Super Bowl. Devon Witherspoon was one of those players on the defense, while Kenneth Walker III was one on the offense.

At the end of the day, it was, of course, a team effort derived from a perfectly constructed, complete roster. Still, in every Super Bowl, there are always a few extraordinary individual performances, such as Josh Jobe's night three weeks ago.

Jobe spent the entire season as part of the Seahawks' "Dark Side" defense, but, like many of his defensive colleagues, he had his brightest moments when the lights shone the brightest. The only question now is: what will the Seahawks do now that Jobe is an impending free agent? But if this one season proved all that Jobe can do, it might be enough for Seattle to run it back with him.

Josh Jobe re-signing with the Seahawks would fill a hole should Riq Woolen walk in free agency

Riq Woolen's free-agent status could depend on Jobe's own future with the Seahawks. That said, the likelihood of Woolen returning to Seattle is not exactly high, which could open the door for the Seahawks to run it back with Jobe in Woolen's place.

Should they decide to take this route, it would be a wise decision based on Jobe's significant impact during the regular season and in the playoffs — specifically, the Super Bowl. In that game, Jobe was targeted 13 times by the New England Patriots offense. Usually, when an offense targets a defender that many times, it's because that said defender is a weak link on the defense.

However, the Patriots fooled themselves into thinking Jobe was a weak link, considering he surrendered just 3 catches for 11 yards that night. Jobe's impact was also felt late in the first quarter when he made a tackle for a loss after the Patriots ran a hot route to their running back, TreVeyon Henderson, on the sideline. Jobe quickly jumped that play, blowing it up before Henderson could go anywhere.

Now, these two plays in the Super Bowl only capped off what was a solid season for Jobe, who was in his second season with the Seahawks. Sharing the spotlight with Woolen at right corner, Jobe contributed 54 total tackles (41 solo, 13 assisted) and one interception. If Woolen does leave, or the Seahawks simply let him walk, Jobe is the obvious next man up, and he's earned that role if Seattle agrees.
