Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider did something that 12s have come to expect this offseason, though it didn't happen in 2025. Schneider didn't make a splashy move by adding a big-name free agent from another team, though he still could add a name that fans are familiar with.

Edge rusher Jadeveon Clowney is available in free agency, and Seattle has a need at the position. Boye Mafe signed with the Cincinnati Bengals in free agency, and though Seattle still has three solid players there, Clowney would augment the group.

He is also familiar with head coach Mike Macdonald's system, having played under Macdonald when the HC was the defensive coordinator with the Baltimore Ravens in 2023. Clowney had a terrific season with 9.5 sacks and playing his typically great run defense.

Seattle Seahawks could have a future that sees edge rusher Jadeveon Clowney return

Though he is now 33 years old, he was quite good for the Dallas Cowboys last season with 8.5 sacks and 12 tackles for loss. Were he to sign with the Seahawks, he would know his role well in Macdonald's scheme and would know the city too, as he played for the Seahawks in 2019. He shouldn't be overly expensive, either.

According to Spotrac, Clowney's market value is just $5.7 million in 2026, an extremely affordable amount for Seattle, which still has plenty of cash left to spend this offseason. If the edge rusher wants to follow in the footsteps of DeMarcus Lawrence from 2025 and leave the Cowboys for a potential Super Bowl winner, Clowney would be smart to come back to the Pacific Northwest.

The addition of Jadeveon Clowney might not come for a bit, though. The player doesn't mind waiting to sign deals, as he understands wherever he ends up, he will play a lot, and he won't get paid a game check until the new season begins. He will get a signing bonus, sure, but not one large enough for him to rush back before training camp.

For the Seattle Seahawks, they might want to wait to see how the 2026 draft plays out. The team has only four selections, but John Schneider might choose to trade back out of the first round to pick up more picks. Does Seattle find an edge rusher in the second round? Maybe.

If not, the Seahawks may need to look at who is still available in free agency. That could include Jadeveon Clowney on a one-year deal. It should.
