Seahawks icon Russell Wilson's days numbered with latest Jaxson Dart news

Might be another step closer.

Russell Wilson will always matter to many Seattle Seahawks fans, and he should. He led the offense when the team won its first Super Bowl. He was the most productive quarterback in franchise history. And the way he left will leave a sour taste in many mouths.

This is why Wilson always stays interesting to 12s. Some were ready to move on quickly from him, but for all the emotions (good and bad) that Wilson was able to draw out, for most there was no easy letting go. There never will be.

Some hope he does well, of course. He isn't a bad person, just at times a very disingenuous one. His answers during interviews were far too rehearsed and planned to be taken seriously after hearing the same words year after year.

Former Seattle Seahawks legend Russell Wilson might be doomed with the New York Giants

So, for those who want RW3 to keep failing as he has done since he was traded from the Seahawks after the 2021 season, and after going to ownership to try to get general manager John Schneider and head coach Pete Carroll fired, there is likely good news. Wilson's time as the starting quarterback of the New York Giants is likely going to be short.

It isn't as if the New York Giants are afraid to release a veteran who they no longer need. New York did so with Daniel Jones in 2024, and they took Jones in the first round of the 2019 draft. The Giants have far less invested in Russell Wilson.

Speaking of the draft, however, New York chose a quarterback with the number 25 pick in this year's draft, Jaxson Dart. Dart was supposed to be a bit raw and was likely to sit for a year and learn. That might be changing rapidly. He has been fantastic in training camp and even better in the preseason.

In preseason Week 2, Dart completed 14 of 16 passes for 137 yards, and he threw for a touchdown and ran for another. Yes, the preseason can mostly be meaningless, unless one is a rookie quarterback trying to impress fans and his new team's coaching staff. Dart has accomplished both of those things.

The issue for former Seattle Seahawks legend Russell Wilson is that the Giants play in the difficult NFC East, and New York is probably not going to be very good. If the Giants get off to a bad start, even if Wilson is playing decently, fans are going to start screaming for Dart.

New York should play the rookie when the season starts to go south. Playing and learning is better than sitting and learning. Once Dart begins playing, Wilson will head to the bench, where he likely will stay for the rest of his time in New York. And the Giants might be the last team he ever plays for.
