The Seattle Seahawks are the top seed in the NFC for a number of reasons, of course, and that includes the way head coach Mike Macdonald can teach defense. His group on that side of the ball is elite. To be fair, though, the group on the other side of the ball is pretty good, too.
The offense is led by offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, who, in his first season, schemed the team to its highest point total ever. He did everything that Macdonald wanted Ryan Grubb to do in 2024, but couldn't. Instead, Kubiak knew how to continue to call run plays while also coming up with a system that had the run be more productive as the season grew old.
The OC also designed a game plan in Week 18 when the Seahawks might not be overly explosive, but also wouldn't put quarterback Sam Darnold in risky moments. Seattle scored 13 points, which was surprisingly enough to beat the San Francisco 49ers, but should have scored at least 20 if not for missed field goals and poor red-zone execution.
Atlanta Falcons want to interview Seattle Seahawks' Klint Kubiak for their head coach opening
Seattle actually blew out the 49ers, though the score would not imply that, and a major reason why was the direction of Klint Kubiak. That lends itself to the Seattle Seahawks having a real problem.
Kubiak could leave to go to another team this offseason, but he would get a promotion in doing so. The Tennessee Titans had already requested to interview Kubiak for their vacant head coaching position, and NFL insider Tom Pelissero has recently reported that the Atlanta Falcons would also like to interview Kubiak for their open position.
Kubiak isn't just an example of one-year greatness. He has been an OC twice before in the NFL, and his teams were productive before they were mangled by injuries. That didn't happen with the Seahawks in 2025, and people saw what a Kubiak offense was capable of.
He also has the family line to understand how to be a good head coach in the league. His father, Gary, was a head coach in the NFL for ten years. Kubiak would not be lost about how to approach a head coaching position.
A move to the Falcons, which cannot happen until the Seattle Seahawks are done in the playoffs, would make sense. Kubiak has coached in the NFC South and understands how the division works. He would be a good hire for the Falcons, but the Seattle Seahawks would have to look for a new Kubiak-clone to hire.
