The end is nigh.

What an end to his career Russell Wilson has had. After trending toward being a potential Pro Football Hall of Famer with the Seattle Seahawks, Wilson was dealt to the Denver Broncos, where he flamed out after two seasons, and did the same with the Pittsburgh Steelers after one.

He has done the same with the New York Giants, but it only took half a season. He was QB1 at the beginning of the season, had one mostly great game against the Dallas Cowboys, and then reverted to his normal form: Not throwing over the middle and taking too many bad sacks. That will never change.

He was eclipsed by a rookie. Jaxson Dart wasn't expected to do much in 2025, and instead, he's been pretty good after Wilson was benched. The Giants didn't win any games until Dart was named the starter, and he's at least kept them close in most of their many losses.

Former Seattle Seahawks icon Russell Wilson might have played his last down in the NFL

Meanwhile, if Dart needed to leave a game with an injury, Wilson was the next guy up, though an awful one. In his three appearances taking over for Dart in limited reps, he is four for nine passing for 52 yards, and he's been sacked three times. Somehow, he has made Dart look like the seasoned veteran.

The rookie cannot play in Week 11, though. He suffered a concussion in Week 10 and will miss at least one game. The New York Giants also fired head coach Brian Daboll between Weeks 10 and 11, and Mike Kafka was named the interim coach.

Kafka could have gone back to Wilson, but instead, the Giants will start Jameis Winston against the Green Bay Packers. Winston has been on the roster all season, but he hasn't played a down. This means New York has lost all faith in Russell Wilson and is thinking Winston gives them at least a better chance against another team.

The assumption is that Wilson will only play should Winston get hurt, but there should be no expectation that the former Seattle Seahawks quarterback would be any good. Not just in Week 11, but ever again. If the lousy New York Giants have given up on him, likely no other team will risk a roster spot for him either. In other words, Russell Wilson is probably done in the NFL after 2025.
