The Seattle Seahawks won a Super Bowl with an improved offensive line, despite right guard still being a mess. Anthony Bradford, a three-year starter for some reason, is now entering year four, and will be expected to start yet again.
One player who shouldn't replace Bradford is Mekhi Becton. The latter is not already on the Seattle roster, of course, but Bleacher Report's Moe Moton suggests he should be. Maybe not necessarily to immediately replace Bradford, but that is part of the problem.
Becton won't be expensive for any team to sign. His last deal from the Los Angeles Chargers only paid him $10 million over two seasons. That's because he has a long injury history. He wasn't always atrocious, though. He was in 2025.
Mekhi Becton should not be the Seattle Seahawks' answer at right guard
Moton racks this up to various injuries the guard had, and that's fair. The truth is that every NFL player has one kind of injury or another, and if the player is able to play through the pain, they will also be expected to be good. Otherwise, a replacement should do the job.
Becton was so bad in 2025 that he allowed multiple quarterback pressures in nine of his last 11 games for the Chargers, who gave up on him this offseason and released him after he spent one year with the team. He managed to somehow be even less effective in run-blocking. Sound familiar? He is basically Anthony Bradford 2.0.
If one needed further proof, they need look no further than seeing that Becton had 18 penalties in 2023, when he was still with the New York Jets. That was when he was still a left tackle, one who allowed 12 sacks that season.
Adding Mekhi Becton might mean that the Seattle Seahawks get so desperate with injuries that they have to put Becton at left tackle. That would be criminal.
Maybe some poo-poo that thought, but let us not forget that even on the way to winning the title last season, the team was down to third-string left tackle, Amari Kight, late in the season after starter Charles Cross and backup Josh Jones had to miss time with injuries. Kight was fine, but a risk. He was an undrafted free agent last year. Seattle was fortunate he played decently.
And yet, Kight would probably be better than Becton. At right guard, rookie Beau Stephens would probably be better than Anthony Bradford, and that's key. Instead of signing Becton, the Seattle Seahawks should simply play Stephens. He has more promise than Becton ever did.
