The Seattle Seahawks decided not to stop spending money on the same day it was reported that the team was extending wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba to a massive deal. The team also chose to match the offer sheet that the Jacksonville Jaguars had given to receiver Jake Bobo.

The move was somewhat unexpected. Many Seattle insiders, such as Brian Nemhauser of Hawkblogger, had tweeted that Seattle likely wouldn't match the offer. It was more expensive than the Seahawks were likely willing to pay.

That was sound judgment by Nemhauser, of course. Seattle had tendered Bobo, but probably wanted to work out a longer-term deal that was for less money than what the Jags were offering. As it turns out, general manager John Schneider was just fine with Jacksonville's offer.

Now, Jake Bobo, a seldom-used wide receiver who is likely capable of greater production, but a solid special teams contributor, will earn $5.5 million over two years, of which $1.75 million will be his signing bonus. That alone is more money than Bobo made in any previous single season.

Bobo can earn as much as $7 million in incentives, so he is ultimately getting a hefty raise for coming back. Good for him. His teammates love him, and so do 12s. He has earned that through having a great work ethic and doing the dirty work that every NFL team needs to be successful.

With his new deal, Bobo might expect to get more targets as a receiver. His career high is 25, and that came in his rookie season of 2023. In 2025, he only saw two passes come his way in the regular season. Of course, he had an important touchdown catch against the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Championship game, too.

Keeping Bobo as part of the Seattle Seahawks isn't simply to make fans happy, of course. He is the kind of glue guy the team needs. He is a very good blocker, for instance, and he is completely bought into the organization. Every team needs a guy like Bobo, but Seattle is the one lucky enough to have him.
