Another wise move?

The Seattle Seahawks are dealing with some attrition this season, just as they do each year. But the high-end talent lost has been more and must be replaced. One team insider suggests that veteran edge rusher Von Miller could be part of the answer.

Miller has spent 14 seasons in the NFL and is about to be 37 years old, but he remains a constantly high-producing player. In 2025, he had nine sacks for the Washington Commanders. Is he at the peak of his powers? No, but he is still better than the majority of other edge rushers in the NFL.

He is also solid against the run, so he doesn't simply chase down quarterbacks. He has had seasons when Pro Football Focus (subscription required) graded his run defense better than his pass rush. He is almost certainly a Pro Football Hall of Famer, and he could end his career in Seattle.

Von Miller could be the answer to the Seattle Seahawks edge rush needs

The Athletic's Michael-Shawn Dugar wrote recently in reaction to a potential trade of Maxx Crosby to the Seahawks, "It feels more likely the Seahawks will wait until after the draft and kick the tires on a veteran edge rusher who wouldn’t impact the compensatory draft pick formula, such as Von Miller or Jadeveon Clowney."

Miller wouldn't be expensive, either, according to Spotrac. The edge rusher's market value is projected to be only $5.8 million in 2026. Seattle has nearly $38 million in cap room, so easily enough to fit Miller under the cap.

The question might be whether he wants to keep playing and if where he is playing has a high importance. Maybe he isn't a big fan of the Pacific Northwest, for some reason, and that is a condition for his decision. The hope is that he understands how much he could succeed in Mike Macdonald's scheme, and wants to join a winner.

For the Seattle Seahawks, Von Miller would be a relatively safe and inexpensive option to temporarily replace Boye Mafe, who signed with the Cincinnati Bengals in free agency. Seattle still has DeMarcus Lawrence, Uchenna Nwosu, and Derick Hall, but adding a fourth high-quality player on the edge would help the Seahawks defense remain elite.

Miller's potential acquisition also wouldn't affect what general manager John Schneider wants to do in the draft. The team needs to take an edge rusher relatively early in the draft as Hall is entering the final year of his rookie deal, and Lawrence will be 34 years old during the 2026 season, assuming he doesn't retire beforehand.
