Seahawks may have a surprising trade candidate before the NFL draft

Should they move him?

Barring a trade, the Seattle Seahawks will only have four draft picks. They don't necessarily have to make a ton of moves, but general manager John Schneider might want to get creative to acquire more assets.

So far, their offseason approach has focused on keeping as many players in town as possible. However, they could still move on from one of their pieces if someone comes knocking with an appealing offer.

Considering that, Schneider could look at veteran LB Uchenna Nwosu as expendable. He's a good player on a reasonable contract who might not be back after his deal expires in 2026, so they might as well get something out of him while they still can.

The Seattle Seahawks might get some calls for Uchenna Nwosu

According to Over The Cap, the Seahawks would save $11.5 million in cap space by trading him. On top of that, they could probably get a couple of late-round picks or a mid-round draft selection. If they don't trade out of the first round, this might be their best way to get additional assets.

Per Spotrac, Nwosu is about to make $11 million in the final year of his contract. That's solid value for someone who didn't miss a single game last season, posting 35 total tackles, seven tackles for loss, 15 QB hits, seven sacks, and three passes defensed.

He's coming off the second-best season of his career after playing a combined 12 games in the previous two seasons, so his trade value might be at an all-time high right now.

On the flip side, moving him would leave the Seahawks' pass-rushing unit even more undermanned. There are doubts about DeMarcus Lawrence's future as he mulls retirement, and they've already lost Boye Mafe in free agency. Considering that, they should only move Nwosu if they get a commitment from Lawrence to return for at least another season.

Mike Macdonald and defensive coordinator Aden Durde like rotating their players more than most teams do, and that unorthodox approach has worked like a charm in Seattle. As such, they will probably find a way to make up for his absence, especially if they get another edge rusher in the draft, as expected.

Whatever the case, the good thing about this situation is that they have options. If the value is there, there's no reason to doubt pulling the trigger. If not, they can always count on him to provide some strong play next to Drake Thomas and Ernest Jones IV.
