Seahawks may regret it if they listen to this Najee Harris suggestion

The Seattle Seahawks lost running back Kenneth Walker in free agency, signed Emanuel Wilson around the same time, and then drafted Notre Dame running back Jadarian Price in the first round. What they shouldn't do is sign Najee Harris.

That is a recent suggestion by Seahawks Wire's Matt Legros, who wrote in a short article recently that appeared ready-made for a social media post instead. The issue is that Legros says Seattle should sign the free agent running back, but doesn't give a lot of detail into what the team's running back room would look like.

That's the problem. Most likely assume that Price will be the starter in Week 1, as long as he shows he can be good in pass protection, and that Wilson, who was previously a backup with the Green Bay Packers, could be RB2. But he also might not be.

Seattle Seahawks should say no to recent Najee Harris suggestion

George Holani has been injured too much in his two years with the Seahawks, but when he has played, he has shown flashes of brilliance. He could steal the RB2 job from Wilson in training camp. Depending on how many running backs Seattle keeps on its active roster, those three could round out the group.

Should Seattle keep four, that spot might belong to 2023 seventh-round choice Kenny McIntosh. Like Holani, he has often been injured as well, but has shown explosiveness when he was available to play. McIntosh and Holani also don't cost much money.

Najee Harris might not either, but he is also coming off an injury, and a grave one. He tore his Achilles tendon in late September last season, and whether he is fully healthy early in 2026 is a real question. Harris might be a wise signing if one of the four players above gets hurt, but not before. He is just as much a risk as Holani and McInotsh, despite his relative success in his first four seasons.

Those are the years he played for the Pittsburgh Steelers, and he rushed for more than 1,000 yards each season. He also carried the ball at least 255 times each year, so one might wonder how much the 28-year-old player has left. Running backs tend to have short shelf-lives in the NFL.

What seems clear is that Harris wouldn't be needed to replace the injured Zach Charbonnet. Unfortunately, Charbonnet's return might not come until December at the earliest. He tore his ACL in last season's playoff victory against the San Francisco 49ers.

While the Seattle Seahawks have the cap space to easily add Najee Harris, that money would be better spent on another edge rusher, even after the addition of Dante Fowler. Or maybe saved until next offseason when the free agent class is even better than in 2026.
