Is he really?

Seattle Seahawks defensive back/edge rusher/whatever he wants to be, Nick Emmanwori has jokes. He also has a lot of confidence. He deserves to have both.

On social media recently, after another brilliant game by San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama, a commenter said that no other sport touches the NBA, with one responding that elite athleticism happens every week in the NFL. The original poster said, "There's no Wemby in the NFL."

Enter Nick Emmanwori. The ascending superstar responded to the last post by just tweeting a photo of himself. No words. Just Emmanwori dressed in a Seattle uniform walking through the hallways of some stadium (maybe Lumen Field).

Seattle Seahawks defensive back Nick Emmanwori could be the NFL's Victor Wembanyama

The situation seems ridiculous until one thinks about it for a second. Wait...Is Nick Emmanwori actually the NFL's equivalent to the NBA's Victor Wembanyama? The comparison might be closer than it first appears.

No, Emmanwori isn't 7'4" with an eight-foot wingspan; that kind of height isn't especially useful in football. Wembanyama would also need to add some girth to hold up in the NFL, far more of a collision sport than the NBA. But the Spurs star is elite because of his size, plus his immense skill set.

Emmanwori is a little over 6'3" and has a 6.5-foot wingspan. It's all relative. Wembanyama is tall for a player who participates in a sport that almost only has tall people. The Seahawks defensive back is tall for a defensive back.

But those are just the relative physical traits for their sports. What really matters is production. Wembanyama is elite defensively, but he is versatile enough to make 3s in a way no one his height has ever done. His versatility is the key to his success.

The same is true for Nick Emmanwori. He is on the verge of becoming an elite player in the league because he can do the fundamentals of a safety, which was the position he played in college, well, but he is great because he can be moved around alignments. He can play safety and cornerback, but can also line up at edge rusher. He is good against the pass, but he excels against the run.

The truth is that due to the nature of the individual sports, no one in the NFL can truly be Victor Wembanyama. No one in the NBA can be Nick Emmanwori. But if someone if the NFL can be a proximity to what Wembanyama does, it would be a player like Emmanwor: A brilliant defensive player with immense versatility who can change the outcomes of games.
