The Seattle Seahawks will make changes this offseason. The team has already fired their offensive coordinator from last season. Several players are going to have to leave as well.

A big reason why is that Seattle has no cap room to spend in free agency. Actually, that is not true. The team has less than zero. According to Spotrac, Seattle has negative-$28,524,534 in cap room.

The Seahawks made cap room last offseason by releasing players such as Quandre Diggs and Jamal Adams. The same kind of thing will happen this offseason. Some of the players who need to go are below.

Seattle Seahawks need to say goodbye to these four players before the 2025 season begins

Edge rusher Dre'Mont Jones

The Seahawks can assume what they are going to get from Jones moving forward. In his two seasons with the team, he has had 4.5 and 4 sacks, respectively, and five and seven tackles for loss, respectively. In 2025, should he still be on the team, Jones will likely have four sacks and six tackles for loss. Those aren't highly productive numbers, especially for a player with Jones' cap hit.

In 2025, the final year of his current deal, he has a cap hit of an astronomical $25,645,418. If the team moves on from him, it would save nearly $11.6 million prior to June 1. His dead money would be slightly north of $14 million, which is a lot, but the savings are too much to pass up.

If Jones were scheduled to make $5 million next year, he would be worth bringing back, but certainly not at his current number. He hasn't shown he can be much more than a rotational piece.

Defensive lineman Roy Robertson-Harris

Robertson-Harris did help Seattle's run defense improve after the team acquired him midway through the season, but he did not, and will not be expected to, help much in terms of chasing down opposing quarterbacks. The Seahawks should be able to find a run-stopper in the middle rounds of the 2025 NFL draft, and that would be Robertson-Harris's replacement.

Plus, his cap number is $6.6 million, but he has no guaranteed money. He carries no dead money. Seattle needs to create cap room, and one easy way to do that is to move on from a player who is part of the defensive line rotation on rushing downs.

Edge rusher Uchenna Nwosu

Nwosu certainly is not a bad player, but he does struggle to stay healthy. Out of a possible 34 games over the last two seasons, the edge rusher has appeared in 12. In six games for the Seahawks this season, he produced just one sack and one tackle for loss. That is not enough production for the amount of money Nwosu is owed.

His cap hit in 2025 is $21,288,333, but if he is released with a post-June 1 designation, he would save the team $14,660,000. Again, Seattle has negative cap room in the 2025 offseason currently, and must make space to spend on free agents, draft picks, and the practice squad. Nwosu has not been healthy enough or productive enough to keep around at his cap number next season.

Offensive tackle George Fant

Fant was signed last offseason to be a backup at right tackle for Abraham Lucas. Lucas was still working his way back from knee surgery and there was no known timetable for his return. Unfortunately, Fant was injured in Week 1 and played only one more game during the season. He still got paid a bit more than $3 million to do that.

In 2025, Fant's cap hit goes higher. It is $5,650,000. But the team could save $3.8 million by releasing him. That seems to be an easy decision for the team about a player who will turn 33 years old before next season begins.
