The Seattle Seahawks' division is not easy; at least the top three teams are good. The issue for all three is that there is still time this offseason for one or two of the teams to get even better. According to ESPN, it could be the San Francisco 49ers that still find a way to improve.
San Francisco is a good organization, as difficult as that might be for some fans of rival teams to admit. The team knows how to build top to bottom, and while they get lucky at times by drafting long-term quarterbacks with the last pick in an NFL draft (see: Brock Purdy, 2022), the overall roster is good enough to make the playoffs, while the team loses several players to injury.
Matt Bowen of ESPN thinks the 49ers could also add guard Kevin Zeitler and edge rusher Joey Bosa in free agency. In an article about best fits remaining on the market, Bowen links San Fran to both players.
ESPN has Seattle Seahawks' rival, the San Francisco 49ers, still getting better this offseason
Zeitler is 36 years old, but is still capable of excellence as a pass protector. He would be an immediate upgrade over a 49ers offensive line that was iffy last season, and also lost Spencer Burford in free agency to the Las Vegas Raiders. The Seahawks know full well how porous the San Francisco line was when Seattle played the 49ers twice late last season, once in the playoffs.
Bosa has had a rough injury history, but has played in at least 14 games in each of the past two seasons. While he only had 5.5 sacks in 2025 for the Buffalo Bills, his pass-rush win-rate was good. In the 49ers' system, he could get close to 10 sacks.
Bowen says of Zeitler, "The veteran has a physical inside presence, using his power to displace defensive tackles. And he has the movement ability to pull on gap schemes, which fits into Kyle Shanahan's system."
And of Bosa, he says, "We still see Bosa's speed-to-power ability on tape, and he still keeps high energy to make stops later in the down. He would provide quality depth for a 49ers' pass rush that ranked last in pressure rate (24.9%) and total sacks (20) in 2025. And why not have some fun and put him next to his brother, Nick?"
That last part is important, and potentially underrated. Brothers playing next to each other can be an extremely motivating aspect for both. Nick Bosa is an elite edge rusher when he stays healthy, and Joey isn't far off. Having both, assuming they stay healthy, would be a massive upgrade over 2025.
The good part is that the Seattle Seahawks have a stacked roster still, even after losing a few key players in free agency. General manager John Schneider has built the team to last and withstand players who might be hurt or leave in free agency.
But the NFC West win-loss margins are so tight between the Seahawks, 49ers, and Los Angeles Rams that a minor change can tip the balance. Let's hope that doesn't happen for San Francisco.
