Seahawks still dealing with Jauan Jennings issue after Vikings move

The value of wide receiver Jauan Jennings doesn't lie with his ability to stack 1,000-yard seasons, but in the fact that he is a sure-handed possession receiver who gives everything he has to help his team win. The Seattle Seahawks learned this over the past five years when Jennings was with the San Francisco 49ers.

As of this week, though, the wideout is no longer playing for the NFC West rival but has signed with the Minnesota Vikings in free agency. Jennings will take his mentality and physicality to the NFC North, and teams like the Green Bay Packers will have to deal with him.

Seattle might not be done with the receiver, however, and when the Seahawks play against him could be even more stressful than their matchups against the 49ers. That could come in the playoffs.

Seattle Seahawks might not be done with Jauan Jennings after he signs with the Vikings

While Seattle destroyed Minnesota last season, 26-0, when the Vikings were starting a quarterback that had no business playing in the NFL, what is easy to forget is that Minnesota managed to finish 9-8 despite having a horrid QB situation.

Even in the victory, Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold struggled against Minnesota's ultra-aggressive defense, finishing 14 of 26 passing for only 128 yards. He didn't have a touchdown pass, and he was sacked four times.

If Minnesota had a decent quarterback, not even a great one, last season, they likely would have been postseason-bound and been very dangerous. Great defenses can win championships, as Seattle Seahawks fans know quite well.

With the additions of Jauan Jennings, who signed a one-year deal worth as much as $13 million, and quarterback Kyler Murray to a team that already has wide receivers Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison, the Vikings should have a much better offense. The 9-8 record from 2025 could turn into 12-5 or better in 2026.

Assuming the Seahawks are good again under head coach Mike Macdonald, they could tangle with a much-improved Kevin O'Connell-coached Minnesota Vikings team. Jennings makes them better, and, more importantly, he has the attitude that won't let his team quit at any point.

Is Jennings likely to put up huge numbers against Seattle should the two teams meet in 2026? No. In ten games against Seattle, he has only one touchdown reception, and only one game with more than 35 yards receiving.

It's not his raw production that will likely make the Vikings more dangerous, but his aggression and fit in team culture. These are aspects the Seahawks may have to deal with against Jennings and Minnesota in the playoffs. Seattle is likely not done taking on Jennings just yet, even though he is no longer with the 49ers.
