Seahawks get update fans craved with first Week 1 injury report

Meaningful? Or not...?

First injury reports before any game are rather meaningless most of the time. Seattle Seahawks fans, for instance, might learn how badly a player is truly injured if the person misses practice, but otherwise, they could simply be held out to avoid aggravating an injury.

One thing is for certain: Head coach Mike Macdonald is not going to give any more information about injuries than he has to. There is nothing wrong with that, of course. Giving too much information only helps the next opponent.

Still, ahead of Week 1 when the Seahawks play the San Francisco 49ers, Seattle's Wednesday injury report is slightly misleading. There are five players listed, but one of them is great news. A second one might be, too.

Seattle Seahawks are a healthy bunch entering Week 1 against the 49ers

Rookie wide receiver Tory Horton has been dealing with an ankle issue for the last few weeks, but he was listed as a full participant. In other words, Horton isn't named because he is hurt, but rather seemingly is healthy enough to play against San Francisco and get meaningful reps.

Edge rusher Uchenna Nwosu has been recovering from offseason knee surgery, something that was supposed to be more of a clean-up but became much more. He was a limited participant. His playing in Week 1 is probably still unlikely, but hopefully, he only misses a game or two.

Otherwise, three receivers besides Horton were on the list, and all were limited participants. Jake Bobo is still in concussion protocol, but once cleared should be able to play. That could happen anytime before Sunday. The big question is whether Seattle Seahawks fans watch him return punts this year.

Cody White and Dareke Young are probably receivers WR5 and WR6 on the depth chart, but both are good on special teams. It wouldn't be surprising to see one of them on the inactive list for Week 1.

Overall, Seattle is in pretty good shape, and better than last season. Let's hope no one gets hurt in the actual game, of course.

The 49ers also had a number of players on their first injury report. Three did not participate, wide receiver Jordan Watkins, defensive end Yetur Gross-Matos, and All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams. Williams was simply resting, however, and should be fine to play against the Seahawks.

Wide receiver Jauan Jennings, suddenly one of San Francisco's top receivers, was limited with a calf injury, but should play in Week 1. Fellow wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk is out for several weeks to begin the season, though.
