The Seahawks are currently the fourth seed in the NFC playoffs right now and have the LA Rams and San Francisco 49ers breathing down their necks. The NFC West is shaping up to be one of the more competitive divisions in the NFL, so it's not going to be easy for this team to win it.
Last year, Seattle was oddly the only double-digit win team that didn't make the postseason, and the major change of switching from Geno Smith to Sam Darnold seems to be paying off. Seattle plays the Washington Commanders on Sunday Night Football in Week 9 and do have a 6-2 start in their back pockets.
The Commanders just aren't very good and have dealt with a ton of injuries this year, but whether Seattle wins or loses, they have a logical to-do list at the trade deadline, and that should be to upgrade at the right guard spot.
Wyatt Teller, Joel Bitonio, or Kevin Zeitler have to become Seattle Seahawks
There are multiple guards who are absolutely available for the right price at the trade deadline, which is on Tuesday, November 4th, immediately following Week 9 action. Not only do the Seahawks need to find an upgrade over Anthony Bradford, who has been a disaster this year, but they also must make a move to try and separate themselves from the Rams and 49ers.
It's not hard to see multiple obvious reasons why Seattle must make this move. All of Wyatt Teller, Joel Bitonio, and Kevin Zeitler are veteran players on bad teams and are all free agents following the 2025 NFL Season, so a move for a guard at the deadline would not marry them to the player for more than half of a season.
Teller is the youngest and might actually be a logical long-term solution, but Zeitler might be the best of the bunch. If the Seahawks plan on contending this offseason and taking that next step, they cannot sit on their hands at the NFL trade deadline.
They obviously have a window of contention that is only slightly open right now. A trade for a right guard upgrade would thrust this offense to the next level, likely make the run game much more efficient, and also prove to the rest of the NFC West that Seattle is here and isn't going anywhere.
Making an upgrade along the iOL almost feels too easy to suggest, but will GM John Schneider have it in him to do it?
