Vikings may have stolen something the Seahawks can't replace

First Nolan Teasley, and then...

The Seattle Seahawks' roster underwent some changes this offseason, as every NFL team goes through every offseason, but what's happened with the front office matters, too. Thankfully, general manager John Schneider is still in charge of the team, but he's lost talent among those who worked with him.

The Minnesota Vikings are the biggest offender as far as taking important personnel. The NFC North team hired Schneider's assistant general manager, Nolan Teasley, to be their new GM, and he should have immediate success. The Vikings have talent, and Teasley is certainly going to make them one step better.

But Teasley is taking Trent Kirchner with him to be his assistant GM. Kirchner is one of the more underrated people to have worked with Seattle over the last couple of decades, and he will be missed. Whereas Teasley started in scouting and then worked with personnel, and then did a bit of everything as Schneider's main lieutenant. Kirchner might have done even more in his career.

Seattle Seahawks lose more high-end front office talent to the Minnesota Vikings

Most importantly, Kirchner knows talent when he sees it. In recent seasons, he oversaw college scouting for Seattle and was a key figure in helping the team construct a roster that would turn into a Super Bowl champion last season. While the hope is that the Seahawks organization has front office depth, replacing Kirchner's 27 years of NFL experience might be impossible.

To make matters slightly worse, the Vikings are an NFC team that could be a challenge for the Seattle Seahawks in chasing future Super Bowl victories. Minnesota's overall roster was good enough to go 9-8 last season, even while the quarterback play for the team was dreadful.

Now, Minnesota has Kyler Murray, who, even while never being the elite quarterback some thought he would become, has to be better than J.J. McCarthy. And if Murray doesn't work out, what is certain is that Teasley and Kirchner are going to find a better replacement eventually.

Ultimately, that is the scariest part. Teasley and Kirchner are not short-term fixes for an already solid Vikings organization. They will be in Minnesota for many years, most likely, and get the franchise closer to winning its first-ever Super Bowl. That makes the work of the Seahawks more challenging.

Yet, the most ironic part is that Nolan Teasley and Trent Kirchner, who already had front office talent, learned even more at the foot of John Schneider. Seattle has set another team up for long-term success, and the Seahawks only have themselves to blame.
