Why the Seahawks' biggest offseason wins may have gone unnoticed

This offseason could be a test of Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider's ability to build depth. Not on the team's roster, though, but in the front office. Seattle has lost a lot of talent in that area, specifically to the Minnesota Vikings.

Schneider's assistant GM, Nolan Teasley, was hired by the NFC North team to be its new general manager. He took Trent Kirchner with him, and Kirchner has been extremely important for Seattle in terms of his ability to oversee scouting. One key reason Seattle has a loaded roster is Kirchner.

In response to Teasley and Kirchner leaving, Schneider has promoted Willie Schneider and Matt Berry to assistant general manager. Both should be more than ready to excel in their new responsibilities, though.

Seattle Seahawks make front office changes, but 12s shouldn't need to worry

Willie Schneider is John's nephew, but his promotion is not one of nepotism. Willie has already spent 13 seasons with the Seahawks, and he's worked as the assistant director of pro personnel and as a pro personnel scout. Like Kirchner, Seattle's talented roster is due quite a bit to Willie's talent.

Berry isn't new to the organization, either. In fact, he's so well-respected around the NFL that he was interviewed by the Tennessee Titans to potentially be their general manager. While he didn't get the job, chances are, assuming Seattle maintains a high level of success, Berry could leave for a promotion to another team soon.

That he will have the title of assistant general manager in 2026 is only going to help his cause. John Schneider certainly knows that, too. While good front office talent leaving is not good for the Seahawks, the team is also run by good human beings, like Schneider, who are happy for others when they get a chance to further their careers.

Matt Berry has been with the Seattle Seahawks even longer than Schneider. Berry began his career in the Pacific Northwest in 2006 and was previously vice president of player acquisition. Before that, he was the senior director of player personnel and the director of college scouting.

While the Minnesota Vikings are almost certainly going to be improved by hiring Nolan Teasley and Trent Kirchner, 12s can rest assured that John Schneider isn't just good at finding good players to field a team. He understands how to improve the ability of his front office personnel, too. In other words, the Seahawks are going to keep being good, despite the losses of Teasley and Kirchner.
