The Seattle Seahawks have gone from winning the Super Bowl to barely hanging on through seven games of this season, but a victory against the Kansas City Chiefs might just help save the season. That is where no one expected head coach Mike Macdonald's team to be.
Perhaps a trade or two will help the team augment the roster after so much talent was lost in free agency this past offseason. Otherwise, the Seahawks could be looking at doing a quick retool in 2027, but at the cost of a lost season in 2026.
But we aren't there yet. Seattle is now 4-3 after a dominant win on Sunday Night Football. The season looks promising again.
Winners and losers from the Seattle Seahawks' victory against the Kansas City Chiefs
Winner: Nick Emmanwori
Wherever Emmanwori was aligned, he made an impact. He covered speedy wide receiver Xavier Worthy on a fly pattern, for instance. He could also play near the line of scrimmage to try to stop running back Kenneth Walker.
The defensive back continues to be a steal of the 2025 NFL Draft, taken, for all intents and purposes, with the pick that Seattle got back when it traded DK Metcalf to the Pittsburgh Steelers. That's a win all around for general manager John Schneider.
Winner: Mike Macdonald
Yes, the Chiefs had a banged-up wide receiver group, but the game was a matchup of the offensive excellence of Andy Reid versus the defensive brilliance of Macdonald. The Seahawks figured out a way to stop Kenneth Walker in a way that no other team has so far in his KC career, and then Patrick Mahomes wasn't able to be successful either. Macdonald beat Reid.
Winner: Emmanuel Wilson
Maybe for the last game, Wilson was the featured back, and he did a solid job. He already had 50 tough yards before he scored on a 21-yard dash late in the fourth quarter, but he wasn't done even then. He finished with 100 yards, outrushing Kenneth Walker. He has proven to be one of the better free agent signings for Seattle from this past offseason.
Winner: Jaxon Smith-Njigba
Best receiver in the NFL? Of course, and he will be staying with the Seahawks for the foreseeable future after signing a contract extension before the season. But he is proving that 2025 was not a one-year bit of historic greatness. After having 150 receiving yards against the Chiefs, he has a league-leading 867 yards through seven games.
Winner: Tyrice Knight
Knight got the start because Drake Thomas is dealing with an injury. Thomas took Knight's spot last year and has been good, but Knight hasn't been far off when given a chance to play. Against the Chiefs, Knight was electric against the run and provided solid coverage, too. He deserves to get reps at inside linebacker even when Thomas returns.
Loser: Former Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker
Walker left in free agency and has been fantastic for the Chiefs, but he couldn't get going in Week 7. He was limited to just 36 yards on 14 carries and caught four passes for 21 yards. The Seattle Seahawks knew they had to slow Walker to win the game, and they dominated him.
