The Seattle Seahawks suffered their third loss of the season by dropping Week 6's game to the Denver Broncos in overtime, 17-14. Seattle has lost its three games by a total of eight points.
Once again, turnovers were a massive reason for Seattle losing. Instead of coming early in the game, though, the plays came near the end. The final one, an interception by Sam Darnold, directly led to Denver winning the game in overtime.
The Seahawks are still a potential playoff team, and Denver has almost as good a defense as Seattle does. But Seattle should have won the game, as they were the better team in the second half until the turnover bug bit again.
Winners and losers from the Seattle Seahawks loss in Week 6 to the Denver Broncos
Winner: Nick Emmanwori
After missing training camp and the preseason after having ankle surgery in July, Emmanwori looks perfectly healthy now. He was a menace against the Broncos, finishing with seven tackles, a sack, a tackle for loss, and two quarterback hits. He played at a Pro Bowl level, and that should be expected for the rest of the season.
Winner: Jaxon Smith-Njigba
After a slow start to the game, JSN turned into Superman again and finished with 12 catches and 134 yards receiving. Would he have been as successful if Denver had Patrick Surtain II available? Sure, because Jaxon Smith-Njigba is the best wideout in the league.
Loser: Sam Darnold
Instead of one or two bad games, Darnold is having an entire season of turnovers. In Week 6, instead of starting the game with an interception on his first throw, as he did in Weeks 4 and 5, he waited until the fourth quarter and overtime to throw interceptions.
The first wasn't fully his fault, but the second one was. He simply can't keep throwing picks because it is costing his talented team games. He will remain QB1, and that isn't going to change for the rest of the season. In the offseason, maybe the team will look to make a change if his turnover problem continues.
Loser: Tory Horton
Horton finally saw the field more, but sadly, maybe he shouldn't have. He was targeted five times, but caught just one pass for 13 yards. He had a decent punt return of 13 yards, too. His biggest problem was not running his route sharper in the fourth quarter, and that was the root cause of a Broncos interception.
Seattle had a lot of momentum at the time, and that thwarted what might have been a game-changing drive. Horton can't run routes like DK Metcalf and expect them to work because Metcalf is a bad route-runner, too.
Loser: Jason Myers
Myers did make two field goals, but he missed a 47-yard attempt in the third quarter that could have been the difference in the game in regulation. Those three points could have been the difference -- nay, should have been the difference -- in Seattle winning the game.
Kickers, just like every human being, can't be expected to be perfect, but that is the level they are held to because they have one important job. 47-yard kicks are easily made by most kickers in the current NFL, and Myers needed to make his in Week 6.
Loser: The defense
The defense isn't here because it did anything wrong. The unit wasn't great in the first half, sure, but it was dominant in the second half. Denver only finished with 168 total yards and averaged 3.2 yards per play.
The reason the defense is here is that it continues to play well enough to win, but Sam Darnold and some of the offense keep putting the team in positions to lose. The defense deserves better, and there is no guarantee that Darnold will be better.
