Russell Wilson has been making headlines this past week after he expressed his intent to join the Texas Rangers in spring training at the beginning of March.

Wilson posted this picture on his personal Twitter last week which started a media buzz:

While it has been confirmed that Wilson will be in uniform for that game against the Cleveland Indians, it is now being reported that he will not get an at-bat in the game and may not be on the field at all.

“No way,” Rangers manager Ron Washington said to the Dallas Morning News. “I’m not using him. Basically, we want to see if there is anything he can say that will help anybody with a baseball uniform. He’s got character, he’s a winner.”

Wilson is expected to participate in the team’s workout drills early Monday morning and he will be in the dugout during the March 3 game in Surprise, Ariz.

It’s not yet clear if those are the only drills he will be participating in with the team.

Wilson hit .229/.354/.356 and had five home runs in 93 Single-A games in 2010 and 2011. He played 86 of those games at second base and made seven errors in those games.
