Seahawks vs Lions: early Vegas line and series history

Vegas oddsmakers have installed the Seahawks as an early 9.5 point favorite in their Monday Night matchup October 5th against Detroit in CenturyLink Field.  The line may change during the week depending on the status of running back Marshawn Lynch, who was unable to finish yesterday’s game due to a hamstring injury.

The Lions come into the game off a 24-12 loss to Denver, dropping them to 0-3 on the season. Their other losses are to San Diego and Minnesota. They’ve been struggling on offense, particularly in their attempts to run the ball. They rank dead last in every rushing category, averaging only 45 yards on 17 attempts per game. Their top rusher is rookie Ameer Abdullah with 82 yards and a TD. Matthew Stafford still has Calvin Johnson and former Seahawk Golden Tate to throw to, but he’s already been intercepted 5 times and ranks 12th in the league with 22 QB hits allowed. There are some in Detroit questioning whether head coach Jim Caldwell should take over play calling duties from offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi.

Still, the Lions aren’t lacking for confidence even after the slow start:

These two teams have played 12 times, with Seattle winning 7. Detroit took the last meeting, winning 28-24 at Ford Field in Detroit when the Seahawks defense couldn’t hold a late lead. The last time the Lions visited CenturyLink (then Qwest) Field was in 2009, with the Seahawks earning a 32-20 win on the strength of 4 Olindo Mare field goals and a late Josh Wilson pick 6.

Kickoff is set for 5:30pm PST Monday, October 5th. The early weather forecast calls for mostly sunny skies with a high of 73 degrees and 0% chance of precipitation.
