The rookies have arrived and received their number

To be honest, these numbers do not mean that whichever number the players get now will be the same ones they will have to start the season. But please, do not stop reading. Read on, dear 12, and find out what numbers these players received first. Maybe they will end up on a bubblegum card.

These are the draftees and the numbers they were given:

DT Malik McDowell 94

G/T Ethan Pocic 79

CB Shaquill Griffin 26

SS Delano Hill 44

DT Nazair Jones 93

WR Amara Darboh 84

FS Tedric Thompson 33

CB Mike Tyson 40

T Justin Senior 65

WR David Moore 83

RB Chris Carson 32

Who are some players of note who have worn these numbers in previous Seattle Seahawks seasons? Previously number 26 was worn by fullback Michael Robinson. Number 33 was worn by kick returner Leon Washington. Brian Bosworth once bore number 44 (not that that is a good thing). Steve Raible wore number 83. I cannot wait to hear what happy comments he makes should David Moore do good things this season. Bobby Engram had number 84 on his chest so Darboh has a good influence. And finally Chad Brown, among others, wore number 94. Hopefully, McDowell will well exceed Brown’s accomplishments.

Possibly the Seahawks hope for better

I have an unofficial inkling that Seattle chooses numbers that are not really related to previous great Seahawks in hopes that the new players make their impact. More likely, some of the “good” numbers are simply taken by current Seattle players. There are only so many 88s to ever be had. Of course, the numbers 71 (Walter Jones), 80 (Steve Largent) and 96 (Cortez Kennedy) will never be worn by Seahawks again as they are retired. Plus, Seattle retired the number 12 in honor of the fans. We have all had our number retired. Because we are all 12s.
